Watch the Cyberpunk 2077 ‘PS1 Demake’ Made Entirely in PS4’s Dreams

Cyberpunk 2077 has been 'demade' inside PS4's exclusive creative toolbox Dreams, in the style of a PlayStation 1 game.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/13/cyberpunk-1997-playstation-1-demake-teaser-trailer"]

YouTuber Bearly Regal has released a new video that showcases his demake of Cyberpunk 2077 in Dreams, called Cyberpunk 1997. Textures are made with pixel art for that authentic old game feel, while characters and objects are sprites that rotate to always face you.

At first, the game is played in first-person as you wake up in your futuristic apartment. The apartment is fully customisable and acts as the game’s hub, where you can customise your character, accept missions, and analyse and boost your stats.Cyberpunk 1997

There’s also a personal armoury where you can grab your equipment before heading out to do missions. The only gun on show so far is the 9mm Vindicator - a standard issue for police officers, which is your character’s occupation in the world of Night City.

Bearly Regal then shows the market area outside of the apartment where you can buy and sell goods from vendors. The number of citizens wandering around the market changes depending on the time of day. You can talk to some of them to be sent on quests while others have unique items.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=updated-62-cyberpunk-2077-gameplay-details&captions=true"]

The final part of Cyberpunk 1997 that’s shown off is the rest of the city, which you drive around in a police car from a top-down view, resembling the early Grand Theft Auto games.

Bearly Regal explains that Night City is under martial law due to a spike in gang activity. You can choose to intervene with any character breaking curfew or the law. The world and story is said to adapt to your playstyle, whether you stick to your permitted duties or take the law into your own hands.

Bearly Regal made his own tech inside Dreams in order to piece together Cyberpunk 1997, and you can see him explain how it all works in a development video.

He has also previously made a Metal Gear Solid HD remake in Dreams, as well as a Death Stranding demake.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/10/dreams-release-date-trailer"]

Dreams is due to come out on February 14, 2020 for PS4. Developer Media Molecule has said before that it wants games made inside Dreams to be published beyond the PS4. So you never know, maybe this Cyberpunk 2077 homage could come to other platforms one day.

Modders Build Entire Harry Potter World in Minecraft

A group of Minecraft modders known as the Floo Network has recreated basically the entirety of the Harry Potter universe, and the results are quite magical. Filled with plenty of places to explore and puzzles and quests to fulfill, players can visit some of the most recognizable Harry Potter locations like Hogwarts, Diagon Alley, and much more. For what is essentially a Minecraft mod, the whole project looks surprisingly fleshed out. Aside from merely exploring, players will be able to fight enemies, trade in Diagon Alley, scavenge for loot and supplies, and even explore parts of London. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=igns-top-25-modern-pc-games&captions=true"] Players will even be able to visit the Quidditch Field and play a game or two with friends. Further, a lot of the locations in the Minecraft Harry Potter mod are interactive, like the Grand Staircase, where all the stairs are continuously moving. Additionally, there are a couple of puzzle rooms where players will have to use their wands to shoot at a target or cast a spell to move objects around in order to solve the mystery. Around four years ago, the group released a similar mod that was far less interactive and expansive, and a few years ago decided to relaunch the project with new ambitions. "This current project has been in the works for around two years, and has become gradually more ambitious along the way," one project lead, who goes by the username Wednesday Frog, told IGN. " If you count the old map as part of the project it's been closer to seven years." Wednesday Frog told us that their inspirations were drawn from their love for Harry Potter and Minecraft, and they've even visited some of the filming locations to make their digital world as accurate as possible. "Hogwarts itself was very complicated, said Wednesday Frog. He continued, "Since the castle layout changes a lot throughout the film series, it isn't very consistent." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2014/02/13/minecraft-pocket-edition-review"] However, despite some complicated builds, the team says that their love for Harry Potter, Minecraft, and their fans have encouraged them to keep going. "The inspiration to continue was the support and kind words from all the Harry Potter fans who enjoyed what we'd made a long time ago, and the knowledge that we could expand and improve the whole thing a lot with the experience we had gained over the course of the first version of the map." At launch, players will also be able to visit places like Privet Drive, The Great Hall, the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, the Green House, the Chamber of Secrets, Hagrid's Hut, and much more. Floo Network has not announced an official release date for the Harry Potter mod, but told us that they are aiming to release it to the public by the end of January. In the meantime, players can play as Baby Yoda in Minecraft thanks to the work of a dedicated fan. Further, there have been rumors that the Vatican may be getting its own Minecraft servers, in order to launch a friendlier place to play. Star Trek: Picard Officially Renewed for Season 2

CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Picard has been renewed for a second season, before the first season even premieres on January 23.

Julie McNamara, executive vice president of original content for CBS All Access, made the announcement on Sunday as part of a Television Critics Association presentation.

“We’re thrilled to announce plans for a second season before the series’ debut, and we are confident that ‘Star Trek’ fans and new viewers alike will be captured by the stellar cast and creative team’s meticulously crafted story when it premieres on Jan. 23,” McNamara said in a statement.

Reports of a season 2 being in development were all but confirmed back in December, thanks to Deadline. Those early reports indicated that season 2 would be 10 episodes long, but CBS has yet to confirm that much.

Terry Matalas, writer on 12 Monkeys, Nikita, and two episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise, is set to join as executive producer on the series.

Star Trek: Picard will follow the continuing adventures of the former captain of the USS Enterprise, Jean-Luc Picard, as played by the iconic Sir Patrick Stewart, 20 years after the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He’ll be joined by a cast of new (and plenty of returning) faces, including Jonathan Frakes’ Riker, Jeri Ryan’s Seven of Nine, Brent Spiner’s Data, Marina Sirtis’ Deanna Troi, and others.

IGN spoke with Sir Patrick Stewart about Star Trek: Picard at Comic Con, where he revealed the name of his canine companion.

Gamer Saves Friend’s Life From 5,000 Miles Away

A 20-year-old gamer in America saved a friend's life from more than 5,000 miles away earlier this month, according to a report from the BBC. 17-year-old North West England resident Aidan Jackson was playing video games online with his friend, 20-year-old Texas resident Dia Lathora, on January 2 when Jackson experienced a seizure. "I just put my headset back on and I heard what I could only describe as a seizure, so obviously I started to get worried and immediately started asking what was going on and if he was okay," Lathora said to Liverpool Echo. "When he didn’t respond I instantly started to look up the emergency number for the EU. When that didn’t work I just had to hope the non-emergency would work, it had an option for talking to a real person, and I can’t tell you how quickly I clicked that button." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/31/the-best-games-of-the-decade-2010-2019"] BBC reports that Lathora had Jackson's address even though the two never met in person. Police arrived to Jackson's surprised parents at 9:40 p.m., about 40 minutes after Jackson's seizure reportedly started. Jackson's parents told police they hadn't called anyone, but when police explained the call had come from America, Jackson's mother went upstairs to check on her son, finding him "extremely disorientated." Aidan Jackson had previously experienced a seizure in May 2019, according to the BBC. He is currently awaiting a new appointment at a local hospital to address the issue. Jackson's parents expressed gratitude for Lathora's quick action. "We are extremely thankful for what Dia did and shocked that we could be downstairs and not know anything was happening," Ms Jackson told the BBC. "Dia had our address but didn't have any contact numbers, so it was amazing she managed to get help from so far away. I've spoken to her and expressed our thanks - she's just glad she could help. Aidan is a lot better and hopefully everything is OK when he has his appointment at the hospital but he's doing well." Awesome Games Done Quick Raises $3.13 Million For Charity

Awesome Games Done Quick, the video game speedrunning marathon that raises money for various charities, has finished its week-long 2020 run by raising $3.13 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

AGDQ 2020 also received more monetary donations than any other Games Done Quick event in the past, according to a press release. Games Done Quick says it received more than 54,000 donations from across more than 80 countries.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/11/getting-over-it-developer-reacts-to-1-minute-24-second-speedrun"]

Awesome Games Done Quick 2020 managed to beat out every other Games Done Quick event for the highest amount of money raised. The closest runner-up is 2019’s Summer Games Done Quick, which raised just over $3 million.

Since its inception in 2010, Games Done Quick as an organization has raised more than $25 million for a variety of charities, including AbleGamers, Doctors Without Borders, and Organization for Autism Research.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/12/control-developers-react-to-49-minute-speedrun"]

1917 Topples Rise of Skywalker at the Box Office

In a huge leap from its limited release back on Christmas Day, and following the film's big win at the Golden Globes, Sam Mendes' critically-acclaimed 1917 shot to to the top of the box office charts this weekend with an estimated $36.5 million. A tally large enough to knock Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker out of the number one spot. Per Deadline, 1917 has now earned $39.2 million so far. Rise of Skywalker still pulled in enough to land in second place, with $15.1 million, inching closer to earning a billion globally. It now stands at $990 million globally. Originally projected to make about $20 million, 1917 blew past expectations. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/10/1917-extended-featurette"]

North American Box Office Estimates

Aside from 1917's wide release, three new movies hit the multiplex this weekend, all landing in the Top 10 (though none particularly strong). The biggest debut of the three was Like a Boss, starring Tiffany Haddish, Rose Byrne, and Salma Hayek. It landed in fourth place with an estimated $10 million. Warner Bros.’ Just Mercy, starring Jamie Foxx and Michael B. Jordan followed in fifth, with - well - around $10 million as well. So these two might swap places by tomorrow. Underwater, however, which stars Kirsten Stewart, tanked with $7 million. Underwater follows the crew of a subterranean ocean laboratory dealing with an aggressive alien threat, with our own review calling it "a slick and enjoyable sci-fi thriller that never quite breaches greatness." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/19/underwater-trailer-1"] Here are the Top 10 North American box office estimates for the weekend (via Box Office Mojo)

  • 1. 1917 $36,500,000
  • 2. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker $15,059,000
  • 3. Jumanji: The Next Level $14,000,000
  • 4. Like a Boss $10,000,000
  • 5. Just Mercy $10,000,000
  • 6. Little Women $7,650,000
  • 7. Underwater $7,003,000
  • 8. Frozen 2 $5,761,000
  • 9. Knives Out $5,725,000
  • 10. Spies in Disuise $5,108,000

Silence of the Lambs Sequel Series Headed to CBS

A new crime drama, Clarice, is now set at CBS. The show is based on the famous Thomas Harris book character, Clarice Starling, and will take place after the events in Harris' The Silence Of the Lambs, acting as a sequel story. Harris, notably, wrote a sequel to Silence, called Hannibal, which was turned into a movie in 2001. In the film, Anthony Hopkins reprised his role as Dr. Hannibal Lecter while Julianne Moore took over as Clarice, from Jodie Foster who won an Oscar for the role in Silence. CBS's Clarice will not be based on Hannibal (the book) and -- per Deadline -- will be "set in 1993, a year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs. The series is a deep dive into the untold personal story of Clarice Starling, as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high stakes political world of Washington, D.C." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-15-best-horror-tv-shows-of-the-last-10-years&captions=true"] Clarice will be written and executive produced by Alex Kurtzman (Fringe, Sleepy Hollow, Star Trek) and Jenny Lumet (2017's The Mummy). “After more than 20 years of silence, we’re privileged to give voice to one of America’s most enduring heroes – Clarice Starling,” said Kurtzman and Lumet. “Clarice’s bravery and complexity have always lit the way, even as her personal story remained in the dark. But hers is the very story we need today: her struggle, her resilience, her victory. Her time is now, and always.” This news comes a soft blow to fans of NBC's Hannibal, who've been hoping the series might return and do a Silence of the Lambs-based fourth season. Previously, Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller was never able to adapt Silence, or use the character of Clarice Starling, because he only had the rights to the Harris novels Red Dragon, Hannibal, and Hannibal Rising (all of which were adapted for the show). MGM, who are producing Clarice for CBS, owns the rights to The Silence of the Lambs so that's why this show is going forward with Clarice as its linchpin, and in a procedural type environment (CBS' bread and butter), telling a different post-Lecter story. Side note: Right around the time that NBC ordered Hannibal, MGM and Lifetime tried to develop a Silence of the Lambs prequel series based on Clarice. We're bringing this up because it's unlikely Clarice will be able to use the character of Hannibal Lecter because he was introduced in a different book. Same goes for the Jack Crawford character. Which is why the Silence-based show ideas are based on Clarice's life before or after Lecter. The Witcher’s Fight Scenes Were Choreographed By Game of Thrones’ Night King

One of the first big fights you see on Netflix's The Witcher happens between Henry Cavill's Geralt and Emma Appleton's Renfri, and that clash was sorted and choreographed by Wolfgang Stegemann, who Cavill had worked with on Mission Impossible: Fallout. But Stegemann wasn't the full-time Witcher series stunt coordinator. No, that was Vladimir Furdik - aka Game of Thrones' Night King! Netflix's Behind the Scenes podcast revealed how Furdik envisioned Geralt as a fighter as well as how he constructed the actual first confrontation on the series: Geralt's slaying of the Kikimora. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=netflixs-the-witcher-cast-vs-video-game-characters&captions=true"] Though the Kikimora battle was never described in the Andrzej Sapkowski Witcher story "The Lesser Evil," which is what the premiere episode adapts, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich thought "What's a better way to introduce [Geralt] than having him killing a monster when you first find him?" "In the books we actually never see him kill the Kikimora," she explained to host Brandon Jenkins. "He actually arrives in Blaviken with the Kikimora's head on his donkey. So we never get to see him kill it." "We spent almost one month on this fight," Furdik said. "I thought that [Geralt] should be fighter who can already predict, three seconds ahead, when he's going to kill someone else. When he fights somebody he can already predict what they're doing. So his fight should look like very comfortable, kind of like ballet." In his gym, Furdik prepared for the fight, taking into consideration that "the Kikimora is three meters tall and she has eight legs." Furdik then constructed massive Kikimora legs from long plastic pips and made a homemade adversary. "I brought in six people," he said, "and put them on the table." Giving the legs to the guys on the table, Furdik "just stayed under the legs and and started to build the fight." After running through the fight over and over at a slowed down pace, all the moves were taught to Cavill, who never used a stunt double, or a body double of any kind, on The Witcher. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/23/the-witcher-henry-cavill-breaks-down-geralts-fight-with-renfri"] Hissrich has revealed that The Witcher: Season 2 will land in 2021 and be much more linear in its storytelling.
