GTA 4 Disappeared From Steam, and Here’s Why

Rockstar Games officially confirmed the reason for Grand Theft Auto 4’s mysterious disappearance from Steam, and it’s Games For Windows Live. In a statement sent to IGN, Rockstar Games confirmed that “With Microsoft no longer supporting Games For Windows Live, it is no longer possible to generate the additional keys needed to continue selling the current version of the game.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-rockstar-game-review-ever&captions=true"] The option to purchase Grand Theft Auto 4 disappeared over the weekend, creating speculation over the reason. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was briefly unavailable for purchase due to licensing issues with some of the songs in the game, and while GTA 4 faced similar issues Rockstar patched the game with updated music tracks. Instead, Rockstar confirmed the issue was with Games For Windows Live, a service Microsoft shuttered in 2013. Games For Windows Live has created other issues with Steam games including on titles like Batman: Arkham City and Dark Souls. Curiously, Rockstar hasn’t confirmed exactly when to expect Grand Theft Auto 4 to return on PC. Instead, a Rockstar spokesperson told IGN, “We are looking at other options for distributing GTAIV for PC and will share more information as soon as we can.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2009/01/12/gta-iv-x360-ign-best-of-2008-nominee-grand-theft-auto-iv"] Whether this means an updated port will become available on Steam or the Rockstar Launcher (or both) is still unannounced. Meanwhile, check out IGN’s Grand Theft Auto 4 review for our take on Rockstar’s adventure into Liberty City. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt Kim is a reporter for IGN. Showtime’s Shameless Renewed for Eleventh and Final Season

Shameless has been renewed for an 11th and final season. Showtime made the announcement on Monday at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour in Pasadena. In the press release, the network says Shameless is their biggest comedy and its longest-running show. “I’m unbelievably thankful for all of the years of support from [Showtime President of Entertainment] Gary Levine and everyone at Showtime that’s allowed us to make Shameless,” Executive Producer John Wells said in the press release. “It’s been a fantastic experience and all of us in the cast and crew have had a wonderful time following the lives of the Gallagher family and friends. It’s been a pleasure!” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/01/04/the-50-best-tv-opening-credits-2008-2018"] The show is a remake of the British TV series Shameless, which itself ran for 11 seasons from 2004 to 2013. Both shows revolve around the dysfunctional Gallagher family and their drunk and unreliable patriarch, Frank. William H. Macy has portrayed Frank on the American series for every season. He's joined by actors Jeremy Allen White, Shanola Hampton and Cameron Monaghan. Emmy Rossum led the show with Macy for the first nine seasons. The series has won 3 Emmys out of 14 nominations so far, including 5 nominations for Macy as lead actor in a comedy. The tenth season is currently airing on Showtime and has been averaging 5.7 million viewers every week, according to Showtime. Showtime also announced a premiere date for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels and has been casting its Halo series. Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Release Date and Trailer Revealed

At the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Showtime revealed the premiere date and the teaser trailer for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. The new supernatural-thriller will premiere on Sunday, April 26, 2020. Here's how Showtime describes the series. "A spiritual descendant of the original Penny Dreadful story set in Victorian-era London, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels opens in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension. When a grisly murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega (Zovatto) and his partner Lewis Michener (Lane) become embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city's first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/09/netflixs-dracula-review"] John Logan (Gladiator) will act as showrunner along with executive producers Sam Mendes (1917) and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road). Penny Dreadful: City of Angels also stars Lorenza Izzo, Adam Rodriguez, Amy Madigan, Brent Spiner, Lin Shaye, Thomas Kretschmann, Dominic Sherwood, and Ethan Peck. Back in 2018, Logan said that Penny Dreadful: City of Angels will grapple "with specific historical and real-world political, religious, social and racial issues. In 1938, Los Angeles was facing some hard questions about its future and its soul. Our characters must do the same. There are no easy answers. There are only powerful questions and arresting moral challenges.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-15-best-horror-tv-shows-of-the-last-10-years&captions=true"] [poilib element="accentDivider"] David Griffin still watches DuckTales in his pajamas with a cereal bowl in hand. Morbius Trailer: Jared Leto Makes Marvel Monster Debut

IGN is excited to offer the first look at the trailer for Morbius from Sony Pictures, which you can watch above. Directed by Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Life), the film stars Jared Leto as genius-scientist Dr. Michael Morbius, a Marvel Comics character who accidentally becomes a monster while trying to create a cure for his rare blood disease. “Morbius, the man, is a pretty complex character. That's what I was really attracted to. This is somebody who has a lot of conflict in his life,” Leto told IGN. “He's a guy who's born with this horrible disease and is really a gifted person. When he was young, he was very curious about science and medicine and decided to dedicate his life to find a cure for the disease that he's afflicted with and that others like him have, as well. But along the way, all hell breaks loose.” Given the carnage that unfolds in the trailer, that’s an understatement. [caption id="attachment_228538" align="alignnone" width="1280"]Morbius_blogroll (1) Jared Leto stars as Dr. Michael Morbius[/caption]

Jared Leto as Morbius

In the comics, Morbius is referred to as “Morbius, the Living Vampire” because he transforms into a vampire-like creature with pale skin, incredible strength and speed, night vision, and a thirst for blood so he may sustain his life, although there’s nothing supernatural about him. He’s not like Dracula, meaning he’s not an ancient being who gets weakened by garlic, sunlight, or crosses. He’s very much a freak accident of modern science and a tragic monster of his own making. Morbius started out as a Spider-Man villain -- a gifted scientist-turned-monster not unlike the Lizard or Doctor Octopus -- but after reckoning with what he had become, he decided to use his abilities, freakish though they may be, to help people as a Marvel anti-hero. The trailer teases larger connections to Sony’s other Spider-Man movies in the form of a vandalized Spider-Man poster glimpsed in the background and an appearance from Michael Keaton’s Vulture. There’s also the flashing of the movie titles for Homecoming, Far From Home, and Venom, implying these films are all connected. But much like 2017’s Venom movie starring Tom Hardy, this film will focus squarely on the titular character to tell a standalone origin story. [poilib element="quoteBox" parameters="excerpt=%22That%20battle%20between%20the%20light%20and%20dark%20is%20something%20that%20%5BMorbius%5D%20fights%20throughout%20the%20film.%22"]That story is one that comic readers will recognize, to a degree, but is largely a fresh spin on the tale of Morbius. What remains intact from the classic Morbius comics is the character’s core moral dilemma that drives the drama of his story. In seeking to do something good by curing his disease and helping others with the same affliction, it ends up costing him his own humanity because the “cure” has the nasty side effect of transforming him into a horrifying, blood-thirsty creature. It’s that very plight that drew Leto to the character. “There's a line in the film where Morbius says that he's been dying his entire life and now feels more alive than ever. And I think that sums it up,” Leto explained. “Here's someone who's been afflicted with this horrendous disease and has had all kinds of challenges and has been in pursuit of this cure. And then all of a sudden has this power and this physical strength, which is all incredible, but there is a flip side to it, as well. There's a dark side. So that battle between the light and dark is something that he fights throughout the film.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/04/16/morbius-jared-letos-marvel-movie-explained"] As we see in the trailer, Michael Morbius gains several superpowers as a result of experimenting with bat DNA to cure his condition. He lifts an impossibly heavy object with super-strength, moves at great speed while leaving a misty, colorful trail in his wake, slices a metal pipe (and a man’s face) with a gnarly set of claws, and senses the environment with echolocation. It’s all a pretty sweet package, were it not for the overpowering urge to consume blood. But it’s that element of darkness that has allowed the character to endure in Marvel’s pantheon of iconic characters. There’s simply no other character quite like him. Yes, Bruce Banner struggles to contain the rage of the Hulk and Black Widow defies the conditioning that would have her be a merciless assassin, but no other marquee Marvel do-gooder must deal with the fact that, deep down, they just want to eat people. Or rather, drink their life essence like a cherry Slurpee. [poilib element="quoteBox" parameters="excerpt=%22Morbius%20is%20an%20imperfect%20person.%20He's%20not%20your%20grandfather's%20superhero.%22"]With numerous movies based on comic book characters releasing every year, Leto expressed how he enjoyed the moral complexity of Morbius because that’s what makes the character stand out from the pack. “Inside of Morbius, there's a person who has a moral code. There's a good person. Ultimately it's that common struggle between good and evil. And, I guess, we'll see what ultimately prevails,” Leto teased. “That's what I like a lot about this movie. We're not walking such a clear path. There's not a clear line between what's right and what's wrong. There's some gray area there. And Morbius is an imperfect person. He's not your grandfather's superhero. He's a deeply complex character and imperfect. And I really loved that aspect that here we're taking someone who is like all of us, has a fair amount of challenges and issues.” The official synopsis for Morbius reads, “One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.” Morbius releases on July 31 in the US and UK, and July 30 in the AU. Joining Leto in the cast are Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Star Trek TV Universe Set to Expand With Two More Live-Action Series

Star Trek franchise boss Alex Kurtzman has revealed that two more live-action shows are set to beam on to the small screen as part of his five-year plan for the ever-expanding Trek universe. According to TrekCore, Kurtzman shared his outlook from the captain's chair, as he discussed the roster of Star Trek projects currently in development, including two new series outside of Discovery, Picard, and Section 31. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/07/20/a-look-at-the-world-of-star-trek-picard"] "There are two more live-action shows that haven't been announced yet," he reportedly said at the CBS All Access Star Trek: Picard press tour. Kurtzman remained as tight-lipped as an Aldebaran shellmouth over the focus of these two new projects; though a Starfleet Academy series and a limited series based around the classic Wrath of Kahn story were previously rumoured to be part of the expansion plan. Elsewhere, Trekkies have been petitioning for an Anson Mount-led Captain Pike series ever since his temporary role as the USS Discovery captain at the beginning of Star Trek: Discovery's second season. Consequently, a solo spin-off series may also be a contender. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/11/06/captain-pike-returns-in-this-star-trek-short-treks-first-look"] Stepping away from speculation, Star Trek producer Heather Kadin also shared an update on the Georgiou-centric Discovery spin-off series, Section 31, which is in active development, saying it's "a huge priority; Michelle [Yeoh’s] character [Georgiou] is so unique, and you've never seen that before." This follows the recent transmission that Star Trek: Picard has officially been renewed for a second season ahead of its debut later this month. "We're thrilled to announce plans for a second season before the series' debut, and we are confident that Star Trek fans and new viewers alike will be captured by the stellar cast and creative team's meticulously crafted story when it premieres on Jan. 23," Julie McNamara, executive vice president of original content for CBS All Access, said in a recent statement. New Official Critical Role D&D Book Announced

Dungeons and Dragons developer Wizards of the Coast has announced Explorer’s Guide to WIldemount, a new roleplaying book in collaboration with Critical Role’s chief creative officer and dungeon master Matt Mercer.

The 304-page sourcebook will be released on March 17 -- available for preorder -- and details the continent of Wildemount, the setting of Critical Role’s second campaign, alongside introductory adventures and plot seeds to begin your own adventures in the Critical Role world.

Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount_ Front

In addition to the setting, the Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount book introduces new player options, including subclasses like the Echo Knight fighter subclass, the Dunamancy school of magic, and new magic items and monsters to throw at your adventurers.

“Dungeons & Dragons has had such a massive, positive impact on nearly my entire life, and I am ever inspired by the endless creativity I see it spark in so many others across the world,” said Matt Mercer, Dungeon Master of Critical Role and lead writer on the guide. “To have been able to work with Wizards of the Coast to bring my world to life as an official campaign book is nothing short of surreal. I can't wait to see what other DMs and players create within my world to make it their own!”

“Critical Role is a great example of why Dungeons & Dragons has been popular for over 45 years: a group of friends getting together, telling stories, and making each other laugh,” said Nathan Stewart, VP of Franchise for Dungeons & Dragons. “We’re thrilled D&D fans and Critters alike can now enjoy playing in Matt’s world, as brought to fifth edition in this lovingly-crafted book.”

The Critical Role team also successfully kickstarted Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina animated series that absolutely obliterated its $750,000 funding goal in less than an hour, before climbing to over 11 million dollars by the campaign’s end, and an eventual two-season series order from Amazon Prime Video.

Syfy Announces Peter Pan Sequel Series Titled The League of Pan

Syfy is developing a new limited series, titled The League of Pan, following the adventures of Peter Pan, Wendy Darling and The Lost Boys in their later years. Per Gamespot, Syfy is putting their faith, trust, and a whole lotta' pixie dust into the new series, which will serve as a "thrilling and mysterious" sequel to the original Peter Pan story, picking up with the fabled characters after ten years on the mainland. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/05/29/peter-pan-exclusive-clip-from-65th-anniversary-edition"] "Now grown up and estranged, Wendy Darling and The Lost Boys must return to Neverland to face a new evil that threatens the very existence of the magical place they once called home, reigniting bitter rivalries and unearthing twisted secrets from their past. The fantastical series explores the painful truths of growing up and the realization that 'going home' is never quite as simple as you think," the series description reads. Brian McCauley Johnson will write and produce the fantasy-drama series, described by Bill McGoldrick, President of Original Content for NBCUniversal, as "an original take on the classic," setting the limited series in "uncharted lands, making for new adventures and showcasing these characters like you've never seen them before." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-disney-animated-movies&captions=true"] This isn't Syfy's first flight to the mystical island. In 2011, the channel aired Neverland, a miniseries that presented itself as a prequel to the classic fairytale. Other notable live-action adaptations of J.M. Barrie's beloved story include Steven Spielberg's Hook and Joe Wright's recent prequel, Pan, which provided an alternative origin story for the characters. The League of Pan is just one of several new series currently in the works at Syfy, as it was recently announced that they had placed a straight-to-series order for a live-action Chucky spinoff series from Don Mancini, the writer and director of the original Child's Play horror franchise. The release dates for The League of Pan and Chucky have yet to be announced. Stay tuned to IGN for all of the latest details. Bloodborne Modders Discover Boss Fight That Was Cut From the Game

The Bloodborne modding community has discovered a boss fight that was removed from the final game and shown it off in a gameplay video.

As DualShockers reports, the Bloodborne mod community has been delving into the game’s files for the past several months to get a greater understanding of the Loran Cleric.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/03/27/bloodborne-review"]

This enemy only appears in the Loran chalice dungeons in the final game. However, there are hints in the game’s files that developer FromSoftware planned at one point for the Loran Cleric to also show up in the Forbidden Woods, Old Yharnam, and Upper Cathedral Ward.

Back in March 2019, the modding community showcased that the Loran Cleric has a super rare and powerful area-of-effect attack. The Cleric raises its staff and slams it into the ground, sending out a circular wave of fire that damages everything in its path and that causes the PS4 to drop frames.

Bloodborne loran cleric

This was the first sign that there was more to the Loran Cleric than meets the eye. Sure enough, with a bit more digging, the modders discovered a variant called Fort that was originally planned as a boss before being cut.

Using a jailbroken PS4 and DSTools (a level editor mod for FromSoftware’s games), that boss fight has now been restored, although a lot of the AI is missing, so it only spins on the spot and sends out fireballs as well as that devastating ring of fire attack.

The Bloodborne community is still very active despite the game approaching five years since it was released - some members even held a month-long Halloween event in 2019.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-fromsoftware-game-review&captions=true"]

FromSoftware released Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice last year and is now working on Elden Ring, which was written with the help of George R. R. Martin of Game of Thrones fame.

New Mario & Luigi Trademark Filed By Nintendo

Nintendo has filed for a new trademark for the Mario & Luigi brand, despite the studio that develops the series - AlphaDream - having closed last year. Reported by LetsGoDigital (via Eurogamer), Nintendo of America has filed for the new trademark in South America through the Argentina trade mark office. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2016/01/20/mario-luigi-paper-jam-video-review"] The description attached to the filing includes notes of “computer game cartridges; game memory cards; computer game software; video game memory cards; interactive entertainment software to play video games; covers for mobile phones”, indicating that it covers pretty much everything that could come out of the Mario & Luigi brand. The Mario & Luigi games are RPGs developed by AlphaDream. The series’ future was put into uncertainty last year when AlphaDream filed for bankruptcy and was forced to close. Since then, Nintendo has made no official comment on its intentions for the RPG series, so fans have been uncertain as to if there would be more games. This trade mark filing could indicate plans for further releases, or could simply be an act to re-secure the trademark if it were about to lapse in South America. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=igns-top-25-nintendo-switch-games&captions=true"] While it’s unclear as to what will happen in the future for the Mario & Luigi series, Mario and Luigi themselves will naturally remain a key part of Nintendo’s games. Last year saw the releases of Super Mario Maker 2, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, among others.
