Byleth From Fire Emblem Announced For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Byleth, the protagonist from Fire Emblem: Three houses, has been announced as the new fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch, in both male and female forms. Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai explained in an Nintendo Direct special that due to low mobility, Byleth's grab lacks range, but they are a "distance demon". With a bow and several long-range weapons, Byleth is well equipped for distance combat. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/16/super-smash-bros-ultimate-byleth-fire-emblem-trailer"] Byleth's skills come from their Hero Relic, which transforms their sword into a variety of new forms, including the Sword of the Creator, the Areadbhar lance, the Aymr axe, and Failnaught bow. Sword of the Creator is Byleth's standard weapon, used for flurry and dash attacks. Like the weapon in the Three Houses game, it can be transformed into a whip for for much longer-range attacks. The up special, for example, will whip people up diagonally, which you can then grapple into. Similarly, the whip can be used to grapple up to ledges. Areadbhar, a long reach pole-arm, is another option for keeping foes at a distance. The tip of the lace is powerful, but the shaft is weak and so unsuited to close combat. Sakurai advised that players hit enemies with the blade aimed up or down. Its side special move is a far-reaching sweep upwards. Aymr is an axe used for powerful downward inputs. Using a down air attack creates a strong swing, which can even be used to create a meteor attack. Using Aymr for a downwards Smash attack swings the axe left and right, while the down special provides a devastating move akin to a Falcon Punch. This must be charged up, and during the charge period you can pass through platforms. It's advised that players don't use it against characters that can counter, such as other Fire Emblem characters, as the wind up provides plenty of warning. Finally there's the Failnaught bow which is used for neutral attack moves. It's pretty standard, with the special firing a long-distance arrow. However, unlike Link's bow, the attack can be kept charging until you're ready to fire. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=even-more-characters-we-want-in-super-smash-bros-ultimate-pt-1&captions=true"] Byleth's Final Smash is Progenitor God Final Heaven, in which they team up with Sothis for an explosive attack. As is tradition for Super Smash Bros. characters, there are alternating colour schemes to choose from, with each alternating number offering male or female versions of the character. There's also costumes inspired by the leaders of each of Fire Emblem's three houses - Dimitri, Claude, and Edelgard - as well as costume changes from the Three Houses plotline. Packaged with Byleth is a new stage based on Fire Emblem: Three Houses' Garreg Mach Monastery. It's made up of several of the key areas of the monastery - the marketplace, the reception hall, the bridge, and the cathedral - which will rotate through as the match progresses. Each area is populated by students from Three Houses, including all three house heads and favourites like Petra, Dorothea, Lorenz, and Ingrid. 11 tracks of Fire Emblem: Three Houses music accompanies the characters and stage, including both Japanese and English arrangements of the main theme. This music can be played on all Fire Emblem stages. There is also a new Fire Emblem Spirit Board filled out with popular characters, including Sothis as a Legend class. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/16/super-smash-bros-ultimate-mii-fighters-costumes-round-5-cuphead-and-altair-trailer"] In addition to all the Fire Emblem elements, Challenger Pack 5 also comes with a small collection of Mii fighter costumes. Altair from Assassin's Creed and a Rabbid represent Ubisoft as Swordfighter and Hat types respectively, While Megaman X, Megaman Battle Network's MegaMan.EXE, and Cuphead provide three new gunners. Byleth and the additional Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC will launch on January 28. Furthermore, Nintendo also announced that 6 new Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC characters will arrive before 2022. Mindhunter S3: Cast Released From Contracts, Netflix Series in Doubt

Mindhunter has been placed on "indefinite hold" at Netflix and cast members Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv have been released from their respective contracts, making the future of the popular true-crime drama uncertain. According to TV Line, Mindhunter's potential third season has been put on hiatus to allow director David Fincher the opportunity to focus on several other projects in his hectic schedule, though "he may revisit Mindhunter again in the future." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=netflixs-mindhunter-season-2-images&captions=true"] "David is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots," a spokesperson for Netflix told the outlet. "He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn't fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own." The first season of Mindhunter followed FBI special agents Holden Ford (Groff) and Bill Tench (McCallany) as they teamed up to develop the foundations of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit, along with psychologist Wendy Carr (Torv). The trio set about interviewing some of America's most notorious serial killers to gain a deeper understanding of their psyche and motivations in order to assist in solving ongoing cases. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=10-real-serial-killers-featured-in-mindhunter-season-2&captions=true"] Season two of the slow-burn series, released last August, focused on the Atlanta Child Murders of 1979-81. Ford, Tench and Carr helped local authorities track down a mysterious killer responsible for kidnapping and murdering more than two dozen black children in the Atlanta area, as the skilled FBI team continued their work profiling imprisoned serial killers, including the likes of Cameron Britton as Ed Kemper, Oliver Cooper as David Berkowitz, and Damon Herriman as Charles Manson. In our review of the second season, we said that the show remained "a compelling and impeccably shot crime thriller" as it continued to build upon the groundwork laid out in season one, lending "fascinating insight into the minds of infamous serial killers and the men and woman who hunt them for a living" despite a "slow start." Wheel of Time Showrunner Posts Photo of Rand al’Thor on Set

Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins has offered fans a first look at the action, sharing a photo from the set of the upcoming fantasy series. Judkins posted the image to his Instagram account on Wednesday, showing the series' protagonist, Rand al'Thor (Josha Straowski), having his hair preened by a crew member against the picturesque backdrop of a mountainous location. In the caption alongside the photo, he wrote: "To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the publishing of the first Wheel of Time book, Amazon is letting me post this picture I took on set in the mountains of Slovenia! Including Rand Al'Thor getting his hair done, giant coats to show you how cold it was, and a mountain safety guide to make sure none of us fall off the cliff. Shooting this scene was one of the highlights of the whole project so far for me and it's awesome to get to share it." While no further details were given about the scene, fans of Robert Jordan's original book series had several suggestions for what could be the context of the snapshot. One commenter suggested that Rand may be using the isolated spot as a temporary hideout from Balthamel and Aginor, while another questioned whether the location could be Tarwin's Gap, a mountain pass that marks the boundary between the Mountains of Dhoom and the Spine of the World, where Rand  destroyed the Trolloc Army. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/04/20/wheel-of-time-in-60-seconds-what-you-need-to-know"] In addition to Straowski, the cast of the first season includes Michael McElhatton as Tam Al'Thor, father of Rand Al'Thor, Rosamund Pike as MoiraineMarcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, Barney Harris as Mat Cauthon, Madeleine Madden as Egwene Al'Vere, Zoë Robins as Nynaeve, and Daniel Henney as al'Lan MandragoranAlexandre Willaume also recently joined the cast as fan-favourite gleeman Thom Merrilin alongside three other key characters. Detroit: Become Human Studio Will Have ‘A Lot of Surprises’ in 2020

David Cage says his studio Quantic Dream will have “lots of surprises” for fans in 2020.

Cage is the founder of Quantic Dream, and is the lead writer and director of games including Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human.

His message for fans came in a tweet:

Could it be a new game announcement? Given Quantic Dreams’ long-running relationship with Sony it could be that the studio is working on a next-gen title for the PlayStation 5.

That said, the latest release from Quantic Dream was the enhanced PC version of 2018’s Detroit: Become Human. It’s been available on the Epic Games store since December 12, 2019.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/05/24/detroit-become-human-review"]

Quantic Dreams also brought its previous games Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls to PC through the Epic Games store in 2019. Before that, all three of those games were exclusive to PlayStation consoles.

As the studio started to branch out to other platforms it could be that the surprises Quantic Dream has in 2020 include bringing those games to more platforms. Or it could perhaps be gearing up to have its first big multiplatform game launch in 15 years.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-quantic-dream-review&captions=true"]

Whatever Quantic Dream has in store, it should be worth waiting for, especially as our Detroit: Become Human review gave it an 8. Hopefully Quantic Dream will have an announcement that forces us to update our list of potential PS5 launch games when the console comes out in holiday 2020.

Snowpiercer TV Series Finally Gets a Release Date

TNT has announced the release date for its upcoming sci-fi thriller, Snowpiercer. The series will premiere on Sunday, May 31, 2020. The announcement was made at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour. Here's how TNT describes the series. "Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centers on the remnants of humanity who inhabit a perpetually moving train, with 1001 cars, that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out in this riveting television adaptation." TNT also unveiled a new poster featuring stars Daveed Diggs as Andre Layton and Jennifer Connelly as Melanie Cavill, which you can check out in the gallery below: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=snowpiercer-the-series-images&captions=true"] This particular version of Snowpiercer, which has already been renewed for a second season, is based on the 2013 film and the graphic novel of the same name. The series has been in development for nearly five years and when asked about the show's lengthy production, Diggs jokingly said, "It takes a long time to make good s**t." Rounding out the cast are Emmy-nominee Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, and Tony Award-winner and Grammy-nominee Lena Hall. Fortnite: Where to Search the Hidden Gnome in the Rippley vs. Sludge Challenges

Fortnite players were treated to two new challenge sets on Wednesday morning, coming a day earlier than normal. One of the Rippley vs. Sludge challenges will task players with finding the hidden gnome between Logjam Woodworks, a wooden shack, and a bucket tree. As you’ve probably figured out by now, these kind of challenges aren’t too hard, as long as you know where to look. To save you some time, we’ve got the exact Fortnite hidden gnome location.

Where to Search the Hidden Gnome in Fortnite

As the clue states, players will be able to find the Fortnite hidden gnome between Logjam Woodworks, a wooden shack, and a bucket tree. This clue is pretty vague, and doesn’t really do a lot of good because these three locations can be hard to find. Further, tracking down the secret location between them can seem next to impossible. Thankfully, we've done the work for you. Players will be able to search the hidden Fortnite gnome northwest of Slurpy Swamp, in the wooded area, as seen on the map below. Fortnite Hidden Gnome Rippley vs. Sludge Map Simply visit the marked location above, and you’ll find the hidden gnome resting under a tree along the edge of the water. Fortnite Hidden Gnome Rippley vs. Sludge Once you’ve found it, simply walk up to it and follow the on screen command. After you do that, you’ll have completed this Rippley vs. Sludge challenge. For more help with this challenge set, be sure to visit our Fortnite wiki page or our list of Weekly Challenges. Also, be sure to check out how to earn Gold Scavenger Medals and where to find Slurp trucks, barrels, and silos. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Andrew Smith is a freelance contributor with IGN. Green Lantern HBO Max Live-Action Series Will Feature Sinestro

The upcoming live-action Green Lantern series from Greg Berlanti will feature iconic villain Sinestro, according to Sarah Aubrey, Head of Content for HBO Max. The announcement was made at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour when Aubrey informed reporters of Berlanti's progress on the series. "The series, so far, is going to span several decades, and focus on the origin story of two major Green Lanterns on Earth while linking it to the story in space, a Green Lantern-favorite character, Sinestro." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=dc-extended-universe-every-upcoming-movie&captions=true"] While no official casting news was revealed during the panel, we can theorize which Green Lantern characters will be used in the show. The two most obvious choices would be Hal Jordan and John Stewart, arguably the most popular Earth Green Lanterns, who have plenty of shared history together to mine for a television series. But if they want to go for something a little different, they could feature rookie GLC recruits Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz, who recently starred in a buddy cop comic series titled Green Lanterns. (Cruz was recently featured in the animated movie Justice League vs. the Fatal Five.) They would make for excellent gateway characters into the Green Lantern mythos. The Green Lantern series was first announced back in October 2019 at WarnerMedia's HBO Max presentation. Berlanti, who is best known for creating the CW's Arrowverse, called the GL series "our biggest DC show ever made" in a statement. No release date was announced at the panel. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/10/30/green-lantern-tv-show-coming-to-hbo-max-ign-now"] What do you think of Sinestro being featured in the GL series? Let us know in the comments.
