Xbox Games With Gold February 2020 Free Games Announced

Xbox has revealed that TT Isle of Man, Call of Cthulhu, Fable Heroes, and 2004's Star Wars: Battlefront will all be available for Games With Gold for February 2020. Starting February 1, TT Isle of Man and Fable Heroes will both be available for those with Xbox Live Gold. On February 16, Call of Cthulhu and Star Wars: Battlefront will also become available. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/28/xbox-february-2020-games-with-gold-trailer"] TT Isle of Man will be available through February 29 and allows players to "take on the challenge of Snaefell mountain" in this motorcycle game. Released in 2018, TT Isle of Man recreates all 37.73 of the course to allow fans to experience each moment. Call of Cthulhu will stay on Games With Gold through March 16 and is set in the iconic universe of H.P. Lovecraft and is based off the classic pen and paper RPG of the same name. In our review, we said "Call of Cthulhu's engaging mystery and intriguing utilization of RPG mechanics make it one of the more enjoyable Lovecraftian games in years." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/10/30/call-of-cthulhu-review"] Fable Heroes will be available through February 15 and is a hack-and-slash adventure title set in Fable's world of Albion. Up to four players can play competitively or cooperatively. In our review of Fable Hereos, we said "The playful visuals hardly compensate for old ideas and mundane action. Hardcore Fable nerds may find something of interest by drudging through the brief campaign. It’s an amusing but empty distraction." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2012/04/30/fable-heroes-video-review"] Star Wars: Battlefront, which should not be confused with the 2015 release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, released in 2004 and allowed Star Wars fans to live out battles of the first six films. It's important to note that there is no online gameplay support for this title and it will be available through February 29. In our review of Star Wars: Battlefront, we said "There's a very likable, very direct approach to its combat. It uses high quality visuals and sounds to implant a legitimately Star Wars experience into our heads, but it's careful to never beat us with the franchise." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/10/09/star-wars-battlefront-2004-vs-battlefront-2-2017-graphics-comparison"] The Xbox Games With Gold titles follow January's selection which include Styx: Shards of Darkness, Batman: The Telltale Series, Tekken 6, and LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. Xbox Boss Still Says Frame Rate Is More Important Than Resolution

Phil Spencer is nothing if not consistent. For years the Xbox boss has talked about his preference for frame-rate over resolution, and Spencer sticks by this even at the dawn of a new console generation with the Xbox Series X. “The feel of the games [is] definitely something that we wanted to have more focus on, not just throwing more pixels on screen,” said Spencer in a new interview with Stevivor. These comments echo the ones he’s made in the past, as far back as 2014. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=igns-top-25-xbox-one-games&captions=true"] Techradar reported around the time of the launch of the first Destiny, Spencer said that “Frame rate to me is significantly more important to gameplay than resolution and the mix of those two which brings the right art style and freedom.” Frame rate is measured in frames per second (fps) is the frequency in which a frame of images is refreshed per second. Developers tend to try and at least achieve 30 fps as a threshold. However, a lower frame rate could lead to a bigger input lag which could impact gaming, especially games that require quick reflexes. Resolution meanwhile is the size of an image. The higher the resolution, the more details an image can produce. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/13/xbox-series-x-console-announcement-trailer] In the current and previous console generations (not including PC) the hardware is limited, so developers may have had to prioritize frame rate over resolution, or vice versa, though according to a report by Polygon the two aren’t directly proportional. Developers can increase the resolution to a point without affecting frame-rate. But that becomes less doable the more games ventures into the next-gen territory. With consoles like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 touting lightning-fast load times and 8K resolutions, it remains to be seen what exactly next-gen consoles will be capable of when it comes to frame-rates and resolution. Which would you prefer? Vote in our poll below and check out our Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 spec sheet here. Pokemon Home Pricing Details Revealed

Pokemon Home will have two pricing options when it is released in February 2020, plus there will be some differences between the smartphone and Nintendo Switch versions.

A free version of Pokemon Home will be available to download but more features can be unlocked by buying into the Premium Plan. Available on both smartphones and Switch, the Premium Plan costs $2.99 (£2.69 on Switch / £2.99 on smartphones) for one month, $4.99 ($4.49 on Switch / £4.99 on smartphones) for three months, or $15.99 (£14.49 on Switch / £15.99 on smartphones) for 12 months.

Pokemon_HOME_Subscription_Options

Many of the functions made available or given increased capacity with Premium Plan relate to trading Pokemon, so it's especially useful if you’re looking to trade in larger quantities or want to trade for specific Pokemon.

Buying into the Premium Plan lets you move Pokemon from Pokemon Bank on 3DS. It also lets you host Room Trades, where you can invite friends to trade, not just participate in them. You’ll also have access to the Judge function - which allows you to check how strong a Pokemon is before trading for it.

Pokemon_HOME_Premium_Plans

Premium also increases the number of Pokemon you can deposit in the National Pokedex from 30 to 6,000. You’ll also be able to put 10 Pokemon in the Wonder Box to trade with people around the world, rather than just three. Premium means you place three Pokemon in the Global Trade System - where you can specify which Pokemon to trade and receive - rather than just one.

Both the free and Premium versions let you trade with friends directly once you've added them to your friend list on Pokemon Home.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/11/13/pokemon-sword-and-pokemon-shield-review"]

The other differences outlined are between the smartphone and Switch versions of Pokemon Home. The smartphone version won’t let you move Pokemon from Let’s Go, Pikachu!, Let’s Go, Eevee!, and Pokemon Sword or Shield - which makes sense as they’re Switch games.

Nor will the smartphone version let you exchange Pokemon Home Points for Battle Points. You accumulate Pokemon Home Points by depositing Pokemon in the National Pokedex. Battle Points are used in the core games in the series on Switch, so the limitation makes sense.

Pokemon_HOME_Switch_and_Mobile_Features

As to what the Switch version is missing, it won’t let you see Battle Data for Pokemon Sword and Shield, receive Mystery Gifts, check news, or trade Pokemon. The Switch version of Pokemon Home is geared more towards moving Pokemon from the Switch games to the app.

It’s also been announced that Pokemon Home won’t be compatible with Pokemon Go at launch but that is being developed, so expect it in the future.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=gigantamax-pokemon-in-sword-and-shield&captions=true"]

If you don’t know, Pokemon Home is designed as a one-stop shop for all your Pokemon storage and trading needs. It brings together Pokemon games across Nintendo platforms and smartphones. It was announced in 2019 as an evolution of Pokemon Bank as a more modern way to organise Pokemon across games and platforms.

Pokemon Sleep was also announced at the time but not much has been heard about it since. Sleep is intended as a Pokemon Go for when you sleep, tracking and rewarding your sleep hours with new Pokemon, and will be coming to smartphones one day.

The Lion King Remake Now Available on Disney+

Disney has added The Lion King remake to Disney+, allowing fans to watch Jon Favreau's take on the 1994 classic whenever they wish. The remake, which passed Frozen to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time with earnings of over $1.3 billion worldwide, joins the original on Disney's streaming platform. In our review of The Lion King, we said "Disney delivers their most successful remake yet. A strong cast, outstanding visuals, and the classic animal-centric take on Hamlet make this infinitely more watchable than some of the studio's previous retellings." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/07/11/the-lion-king-2019-review"] The Lion King arrives shortly before February, which will see such additions to Disney+ as Toy Story 4, season 7 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the second and final season of Star Wars Resistance, and much more. The Lion King was one part of Disney's successful 2019 that saw the company become the first studio to surpass $10 billion at the worldwide box office. Such other films as Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, Toy Story 4, Aladdin, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker helped achieve this milestone. For more on The Lion King remake, check out seven cool facts on how the movie was made, including that it was filmed inside a VR video game. The Thing: Universal and Blumhouse Collaborating on New Remake

Universal Studios and Blumhouse Productions are developing a remake of The Thing, which will adapt the long lost pages of the horror classic's original science-fiction novel. According to Bloody Disgusting, the two studios are teaming up for a big-screen adaptation of the novella Who Goes There?, penned by John W. Campbell Jr., though this time the story will contain some new content from the never-before-seen, expanded version of the novel, titled Frozen Hell. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2012/03/12/the-thing-evolves-building-monsters"] "It's OFFICIAL!" producer Alan Donnes reportedly wrote in a Facebook post on Friday. "I received my signed contract and first check! I am Executive Producing a remake of THE THING but with additional chapters of John Campbell's groundbreaking novel, Frozen Hell, that had been lost for decades. Now, for the first time ever, Campbell's full vision will be realized on the big screen. The new film will include the very best of RKO's THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, John Carpenter's classic THE THING and both books, Frozen Hell and Who Goes There?" John Betancourt announced the discovery of the unpublished, full-length version of the classic novella back in 2018, as he launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the release of Frozen Hell, claiming it offers "vital backstory and context to an already incredible tale." Betancourt recently shared an update on the fully-funded project, telling his supporters about the forthcoming film adaptation of Frozen Hell. In a post on Monday, he wrote, "The movie will be from Universal and Blumhouse. Everyone is super excited about it, and it's being fast-tracked. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what's going on with Who Goes There?, Frozen Hell, and The Thing in Hollywood. I can't talk about the rest yet, but it's very exciting -- and if all goes as planned, the Thing will be alive and well for quite a while." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-horror-movies&captions=true"] The original Antarctic horror story has spawned three previous film adaptations; the first being Howard Hawks' 1951 classic The Thing from Another World and the second being John Carpenter's iconic 1982 film The Thing. In 2011, a prequel to the Carpenter feature, also titled The Thing, was released to box office disappointment. In our review of the prequel, we recognized the casts' efforts "to make the material come alive and to create palpable tension" but ultimately decided that "the last act crystallizes everything that's wrong with this Thing: It simply runs amok looking to scare you by aping what it had done so much better before." Star Trek: Picard’s Patrick Stewart Explains Why Jean-Luc Has a Dog

Star Trek: Picard star Patrick Stewart has shared the story behind his new Number One, explaining why Jean-Luc has a canine companion in the new series and how they settled on a pit bull for the pint-sized part. Speaking to StarTrek.com, Stewart opened up about the creative decision of adding a dog to the cast line-up of the Star Trek show, as he suggested Picard's four-legged friend serves to reveal something deeper about the retired captain of the Enterprise. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/patrick-stewart-why-did-picard-leave-starfleet"] "I wanted a dog because I have, only in the last four years, renewed my acquaintance with dogs," Steward confessed in the interview. "I had a dog, a border collie, when I was little and nothing since then. I thought all we need to do is to have a dog at Picard's side. And that, without any dialogue or any dramatic reference, will say a lot about this man, that he now has a dog always at his side." As an avowed pit bull rescue enthusiast, Stewart revealed he had some influence over the decision of which breed was going to be selected for the Admiral's pet, admitting his strong association with pit bulls helped to determine the outcome. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/01/12/star-trek-the-picard-shows-timeline-explained"] "Well, I am obsessed with pit bulls. What a dog, and how ill-used they have been, appalling used," he explained. "In England, they're a banned breed. I adopted my first pit bull and we already were excited about the thought of taking her back to England, and we couldn't do it. They won't be let in the country. I even talked to the British Embassy in Washington about it and they said, 'There's nothing we can do.' "I'm now part of a campaign working in the UK to get this legislation changed because they are the most sensitive, the most loving, the most giving, the most affectionate creatures that you could ever possibly hope to meet." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=star-trek-picard-photos&captions=true"] In the new series, Picard awards his pooch the affectionate nickname of "Number One", as a reference to the informal title of a second-in-command officer aboard a Starfleet ship. In the original Star Trek: The Next Generation, William Riker (played by Jonathan Frakes) starred as the second-in-command to Picard and was frequently referred to as Number One. Dying Light: Bad Blood Is Now Free to All Dying Light Players

Techland has announced that all owners of Dying Light are able to redeem a free copy of Dying Light: Bad Blood on PC. This comes just a week after Techland revealed that Dying Light 2 has been delayed indefinitely.

“As a token of appreciation for our amazing community, we are pleased to offer a free copy of Dying Light: Bad Blood to every Survivor eager to expand their Dying Light experience,” Techland wrote in the announcement.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/09/17/10-minutes-of-brand-new-dying-light-bad-blood-gameplay"]

In order to get a free copy of Bad Blood, you need to head to the Dying Light dockets site, either login or register an account, and then link your Steam, PlayStation, or Xbox account if you haven’t already.

Once that’s done, and you own Dying Light on the platform you linked, a banner should appear on the website that says you’re eligible for a free copy of Dying Light: Bad Blood on PC. Just click on that banner and follow the instructions to get your Steam code.

Bad Blood takes the gory zombie parkour of Dying Light and gives it a battle royale style twist. Each match starts with 12 players but only one can be the winner. Players search the map for weapons and upgrades, and can choose to team up with other players to fight zombies, or battle each other - they’ll have to eventually if they want to win.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=dying-light-2-e3-trailer-screenshots&captions=true"]

Unfortunately, Bad Blood didn’t attract many players when it debuted on Steam Early Access back in 2018. But with many players able to pick it up for free now it should have a larger head count.

The Batman Starts Filming With Set Photo From Director Matt Reeves

Director Matt Reeves revealed that The Batman movie has begun filming with a picture from the set. The caption reads “#DayOne #TheBatman” and Reeves tagged Greg Fraser, the film’s director of photography. matt reeves The tweeted image shows a slate with the movie title and date, and it’s resting in a brown leather chair, which certainly conjures imagery of stately Wayne Manor. Could the first day of shooting feature a scene with Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne inside his family estate? Given that this movie is essentially a reboot, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if they started from the beginning in a familiar location. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-batman-cast-every-actor-and-character&captions=true"] There’s been much chatter about The Batman as of late. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s Exegol Battle Featured These Animated Series Ships

This article contains some spoilers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Three familiar animated ships were featured during the Exegol battle in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. You may have missed them but, according to a tweet by Lucasfilm creative art manager Phil Szostak quoting Pablo Hidalgo from Lucasfilm Story Group, the Fireball, Jarek Yeager's racer, and Torra Doza's ship all arrive with Lando during that huge battle. Szostak also links to a post on the StarWars website which explains in further detail how the three ships, which are a part of the Star Wars Resistance animated series, ended up there. For fans of the series who were wondering how the Fireball can be there, it turns out the droid Bucket is flying the craft.
