Ouch: Doctor Doom Just Curb-Stomped Ultron
Doctor Doom may put on the air of a dignified, regal leader, but anyone in the Marvel Universe knows that he’s a vile scumbag who would do anything to come out on top. Remember that time he let demons skin his beloved ex in exchange for magical armor made from that skin? Well, now he’s sunk to a new low in Avengers of the Wastelands #1 by writer Ed Brisson and artist Jonas Scharf.
Warning: full spoilers ahead!
[poilib element="accentDivider"]
Avengers of the Wastelands is a five-part mini-series that takes place in the future, post-apocalyptic world of Old Man Logan. Most heroes are long dead, hunted down and killed by all of Marvel’s villains who finally got organized enough to overthrow the good guys and take over the world. After Logan killed the Red Skull, things got marginally better, with several legacy characters picking up the mantles of old heroes to help pave the way for a better future. But it wasn’t long before a new threat rose in the form of Doctor Doom, who in this first chapter has been leading his army across the wastelands, wiping out entire settlements one at a time.
In a demonstration of just how bad Doom can be, we watch as Doom makes his way to a garage where Ultron-8 was working, insults him for losing his way, and violently stomps his metal boot through his mouth. Doom kicks in Ultron-8’s face so hard it separated his head from his body.

While not the original Ultron, Ultron-8 is one of his many copies and has all of his originator’s strengths and abilities. However, he gained a sense of humanity and became like a husband to Tonya Barton and a father to Ashley Barton. The world of Old Man Logan is essentially an exercise in just how bad things can get in the Marvel Universe without its heroes around, which is why the loss of Ultron-8 is especially upsetting for fans. He was a rare bright light in an otherwise dismal place, showing how even when evil is expected of you, you can make the choice to be something good instead.

The rest of the issue sees Doom continue his rampage in pursuit of the new Ant-Man, who unknowingly leads him to a secret settlement of heroes. However, the heroes are able to repel Doom’s forces, in large part thanks to Danielle Cage, daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, who now wields Mjolnir and uses the power of the God of Thunder to smite his army. When she finally makes her way to Doom and smacks him in the head with her hammer, it’s revealed to be a robotic decoy Doombot, meaning the real Doctor Doom is somewhere else entirely -- and probably up to no good. The issue closes with Captain America -- inexplicably alive and well -- showing up to help out.
In the original Old Man Logan series, Steve Rogers was dead and Bucky was operating as Captain America when the villains took over. Red Skull killed Bucky, and we assumed that in this timeline that Steve never came back to life like in normal continuity. If this is indeed Steve finally returned, just how he resurrected is a story that's begging to be told. But regardless of who he is, it seems likely he will be the one who assembles these new heroes to form the Avengers of the Wastelands -- and hopefully avenge poor Ultron-8.

Persona 3 Remake Is Trending on Twitter, But It’s Not a Real Game
There’s currently a social media campaign to get Persona 3 Remake trending on Twitter. Unfortunately, just because it’s big on Twitter doesn’t mean a Persona 3 Remake is real.
Today, fans of Atlus’ 2006 PlayStation 2 RPG Persona 3 are tweeting their wishes for a modern remake using the hashtag #Persona3Remake. One of the most popular viral tweets from this movement is from a fan account called Official AtIus West, which includes an intentional misspelling of the Official Atlus West Twitter account which could fool the quick onlooker.
The social media campaign looks to be a deliberate attempt by Persona 3 fans to raise awareness for their desire for a remake, perhaps hoping to grab Atlus’ attention in the process. The campaign may have begun today because of the date, January 31, which is an important date in Persona 3. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/11/27/the-first-16-minutes-of-persona-3-dancing-in-moonlight"] Persona 3 did receive an enhanced port in 2009 for the PSP. Since it was on a handheld, Persona 3 Portable (or P3P) wasn’t so much of a graphical upgrade as it was a feature upgrade. P3P added new gameplay mechanics from Persona 4, added new storylines, difficulty levels, character designs, and even the option to play as a female protagonist. Persona 3 also received several spinoffs, including a dungeon-crawler RPG called Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth and Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight, a rhythm game. There have also been several anime film adaptations of Persona 3. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=2020-platform-exclusives&captions=true"] While Atlus hasn’t announced plans for a Persona 3 Remake, IGN reached out to Atlus for a comment on the social media campaign. Atlus’ Persona team is currently working on Persona 5: The Royal an expanded version of the 2016 (2017 in North America) RPG. Like P3P, Persona 5: The Royal will include new gameplay mechanics, storylines, and characters. Read IGN’s Persona 5 review here and check out our Persona 5 wiki for walkthroughs, tips and more. Persona 3 is a fantastic game that tons of people love, and since we're currently busy developing the Jack Bros remake we think Persona 3 definetley deserves a chance to be remade by other ATLUS and loved by a whole new wave of people. #Persona3Remake pic.twitter.com/Q0IXOE5ZYK

Report: Owen Wilson Cast in Marvel’s Loki Series
It looks like Owen Wilson will be joining Marvel’s Loki series on Disney+. According to ComicBook.com, the Wedding Crashers and Royal Tenenbaums actor has been cast in a “major role,” although the identity of his character is still a mystery.
IGN reached out to Disney for confirmation but did not hear back by time of publication. We will update this post with any information we learn.
Update: Variety has confirmed with its sources that this casting news is indeed true.
Wilson would be joining lead actor Tom Hiddleston in a story that picks up with the past version of Loki who made off with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. Another casting report for the Loki series says that Yesterday's Sophia Di Martino has joined as Hiddleston’s co-star -- and that she may be playing a female version of Loki.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=marvel-phase-4-official-lineup&captions=true"]
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said the Loki show will tie into the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is no surprise given that Loki and the good doctor are both powerful sorcerers who have crossed paths before.
The Loki series is part of Marvel's Phase 4 lineup, which also includes Black Widow, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, The Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, WandaVision, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, What If...?, Hawkeye, Thor: Love and Thunder, and an untitled third Spider-Man movie.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Dozens of New Screenshots From the Trailer
Following the release of the newest trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Remake – which is technically a theme song trailer – numerous teases have been revealed for the upcoming game.
Below are 75+ new screenshots from the latest trailer, including everything from Cloud at the Honey Bee Inn to Moogles and Chocobos.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=final-fantasy-7-remake-over-100-screenshots&captions=true"]
In our FF7 Remake trailer breakdown, we noted the new shots have confirmed several returning factors from the original game, along with fresh, contemporary story elements that seem to have been added.
Cloud is seen cross-dressing for the first time, along with shots of Red XIII, Scarlet, Professor Hojo, Reeve Tuesti, and more familiar characters.
The newest trailer can be watched in all it's glory, below!
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/31/final-fantasy-7-remake-theme-song-trailer"]
In terms of differences from the original, IGN's Joe Skrebels said, "One of these moments seems to be taking place in Nibelheim, which doesn't fit Remake's supposed timeline. It could be that the Remake extends further into the story than previously expected, or includes a flashback (not unlike the opening to Final Fantasy 15), but the presence of Barret in the same shots could mean these are hallucinations or dream sequences of some kind."

IGN UK Podcast #523: Final Fantasy 7 Remake Hype
This week on the IGN UK Podcast, Dale and Matt get very hype about all their nostalgic memories being made anew thanks to a brand new Final Fantasy 7 Remake trailer. We talk how to pronounce Jenova, Red XIII's voice, the gloom of the Shinra building... everything you could think of, aside from Cloud's cross dressing, which we somehow overlooked. That's why he's in the thumbnail for this episode: the dress may not get a mention, but it's certainly not forgotten.
Jesse's on the show too, and has been playing the Disintegration beta with some of the other IGN guys. There's mixed thoughts a-plenty on that one, but with a sprinkling of hope. There's also some discussion about Warcraft 3 Reforged, the remaster of the classic 2002 Blizzard RTS that's both a fantastic visit to the past and a failure to meet a lofty promise.
As ever, there's also a cool listener-submitted game and our responses to your feedback.
Remember, if you want to get in touch with the podcast, please do: ign_ukfeedback@ign.com

Parasite: Bong Joon-ho Reveals Meaning Behind Title of the 2019 Film
Bong Joon-ho has explained the reason behind the title of his 2019 film, revealing that "Parasite" has a dual meaning in this case.
In a Q&A session on Parasite's home entertainment release, Joon-ho addressed some of the decisions that were made behind-the-scenes of Parasite, as he admitted that the title of the Oscar-nominated film could have been a "risky" choice for them.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/20/igns-best-movie-of-2019"]
"[It] was considered almost a little risky and dangerous," he said. "Particularly the marketing team was pretty hesitant because, in Korea, the word 'parasite' has a very realistic and negative connotation."
Joon-ho went on to explain that the title could be perceived in a couple of different ways, as it has a metaphorical double-meaning that could refer to either of the two central families in the South Korean dark-comedy thriller.
"Because the story is about the poor family infiltrating and creeping into the rich house, it seems very obvious that Parasite refers to the poor family, and I think that's why the marketing team was a little hesitant," he explained. "But if you look at it the other way, you can say that rich family, they're also parasites in terms of labor. They can't even wash dishes, they can't drive themselves, so they leech off the poor family's labor. So both are parasites."
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=oscars-2020-igns-reviews-of-the-best-picture-nominees&captions=true"]
Joon-ho's Parasite was recently nominated in six Oscar categories, including Best Director, Original Screenplay, Production Design, and Film Editing. It is also the first-ever Korean film to have been nominated for Best Picture, as well as the first from the country to receive a nomination in the International Feature Film category, per the LA Times.
In our review of Parasite, we commended Joon-ho for crafting "a stellar dark comedy about class warfare", saying he is "a virtuoso director at the very top of his game." IGN also named it the best movie of 2019 and one of the best movies of the past decade. The story is set to transition to the small screen in the near future, as Joon-ho is turning Parasite into an HBO limited series.
