Animal Crossing: New Horizons May Not Support Console Save Transfers

Update:

The Nintendo UK eShop page for Animal Crossing: New Horizons includes two disclaimers that seemingly confirm the cloud save situation for the game. According to these disclaimers, Animal Crossing: New Horizons does not support cloud saves except in the event of "console failure, loss or theft."

At the bottom of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons store page on the official Nintendo UK website, the company added two disclaimers at the bottom. They are:

  • This game does not support the Save Data Cloud functionality of Nintendo Switch Online. However, the ability to recover Animal Crossing: New Horizons save data from the server in the event of console failure, loss or theft will be available to Nintendo Switch Online members sometime in the future.
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons does not support the ability to transfer your save file from one Nintendo Switch console to another.

These disclaimers, which aren't live on the North American store page for Animal Crossing, confirm that Cloud Saves aren't available except for three unique cases in which the Switch is either lost, stolen, or malfunctions. Furthermore, data transfers between one Switch to another is explicitly not supported.

IGN has reached out to Nintendo of America to find out if this will be the case in the U.S. as well.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons may not let you transfer your save data from one Nintendo Switch console to another.

That's what it apparently says on the back of the game's German download card, which was recently shared and translated into English in the ResetEra forums.

"The transfer of user- and save data between consoles is not supported by this software," reads the translation of the download card.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/02/animal-crossing-new-horizons-deserted-island-getaway-package-primer-trailer"]

If this is true, that means you won't be able to take your save game over to a newer Switch console should you buy one. Good to know if you already own a Switch but intend on buying the newly announced Animal Crossing: New Horizons special edition Switch at some point.

You better hope that your Switch doesn't ever break so you have to buy a new one too, either. Especially as it was confirmed last year in an interview with Gamekult that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will not support cloud saves in order to stop people manipulating time to their advantage within the game.

The German download card also contains the second mention of Animal Crossing: New Horizons only allowing one island per console. The first mention of it was spotted on the Nintendo Australia webpage for the game.

"Up to 8 players registered as users on a Nintendo Switch console can live on one shared island, and up to four residents of one island can play simultaneously on one console," reads the game's description.

"Please note: only one island can exist per Nintendo Switch console, irrespective of the number of users registered to or copies of the game used on one console. One Nintendo Switch and one copy of the game is required for each unique island."

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=animal-crossing-new-horizons-limited-edition-nintendo-switch&captions=true"]

Only having one island may not seem that much different to Animal Crossing: New Leaf. However, New Leaf saved the game on the 3DS cartridge, meaning you could move it around. You won't be able to do that with New Horizons as the game is saved on the console's internal storage - something you can't remove so easily.

Still, as we found out in our Animal Crossing: New Horizons multiplayer interview, at least you'll be able to invite eight friends to your island via local wireless or online play - up from the four-player limit of New Leaf.

Hopefully we'll hear confirmation on this news before Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches on March 20, 2020.

Fortnite Adding Harley Quinn Birds of Prey and Suicide Squad Skins

Update 02/06: Epic Games has confirmed that Harley Quinn is coming to Fortnite. A new post on the Fortnite site explains that a new Harley bundle will be available from 7pm ET / 4pm PT / midnight UK, and includes a skin as well as the Harley Hitter and Punchline pickaxes. The skin in the bundle - known as the Lil Monster XoXo Harley - will dress your character up as Quinn in her now-iconic Suicide Squad costume. Completing three challenges will unlock the Always Fantabulous Harley version of the skin, which is based on Quinn's new outfit from Birds of Prey.

[poilib element="accentDivider"]

Fortnite looks like it is getting Harley Quinn skins as part of its latest crossover with new DC film Birds of Prey.

Harley Quinn will be added to the game for you to buy if you wish when the 1.15 update arrives today. Regular Fortnite leaker Lucas7yoshi found the new skins within the game files and shared them on Twitter.

As you can see in the image, there are at least two Harley Quinn skins coming to Fortnite, and her baseball and mallet will be available as weapons too. There's no word on whether anything else related to Birds of Prey will be coming to the game but it seems nothing has come up when digging into the game's files.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/09/birds-of-prey-official-trailer-2"]

Signs that a Birds of Prey x Fortnite crossover was on the way were spotted in January 2020. The official Fortnite Twitter account replied to the Warner Bros. Pictures account when it shared a photo of the Birds of Prey cast, saying "See you soon Harley!"

That pretty much confirmed the event was on the way for a lot of people, especially as Birds of Prey hits theatres on February 7, 2020. Which, if you haven't realised, is this week.

Fortnite previously had a DC crossover event in 2019 when Batman invaded the game to celebrate the Dark Knight's 80th anniversary. There have been many crossover events before that, too, including Star Wars, The Avengers, and even Nike Air Jordans.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=birds-of-prey-movie-images&captions=true"]

The next big event for Fortnite fans after this is probably going to Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2, which is due to launch on February 20, 2020.

The Complex Is a New Interactive Sci-Fi Movie That Tracks Your Decisions

Wales Interactive, the publisher behind live-action video games such as Late Shift, has announced The Complex, its latest project in the realms of interactive live-action movies. The Complex, which Wales Interactive describes as “the very first live-action interactive sci-fi film”, tells the story of the aftermath of a bio-weapon attack in London. The choose-your-own-adventure style film focuses on Dr. Amy Tenant, a nano-scientist who, along with a fellow scientist, has been locked in a lab that contains a perilous secret. Tenant’s journey features multi-option storytelling choices that branch out to 8 different endings, akin to Netflix's interactive Black Mirror episode Bandersnatch. But within those choices is a detailed real-time relationship status and personality trait tracking, which assesses your decisions and influences how the story plays out. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-sci-fi-movies&captions=true"] Each interaction with characters you encounter will weaken or strengthen your bond with them, depending on your approach, and their status with you will affect the outcome of certain scenes. Your decisions also factor into your overall personality score, which is revealed at the end of the story. While The Complex looks like a classic FMV game or interactive movie due to its live action nature, it appears that beneath the surface is a more game-like system akin to that powering Life Is Strange 2 or the Telltale games. The Complex It is written by Lynn Renee Maxcy, who is also part of the writing team for Hulu's The Handmaid’s Tale, is directed by Paul Raschid, and stars Bad Blood’s Michelle Mylett, Game of Thrones’ Kate Dickie, and Twitch streamer LeahViathan. It has been produced in partnership with Red and Black Films, Good Gate Media, Little Jade Productions, Great Point Media, and Fields Park. Talking of streaming, the film also features a pause system when choices are presented, allowing streamers to get audiences involved in making decisions. Releasing on March 31, The Complex will be available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. If you can’t wait, you can get a (unfortunately not interactive) rush right now with the best sci-fi movies of all time.
