Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Will Use Same VFX Technology As The Mandalorian

Ewan McGregor has suggested that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ will use the same groundbreaking visual effects techniques as The Mandalorian. In an interview with ACE Nation, McGregor, who appeared in George Lucas' Star Wars prequel trilogy, teased some behind-the-scenes details about the upcoming Obi-Wan spinoff series. In particular, he lauded today's VFX technology and how much it has evolved since his involvement with the saga in the early 2000s. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/27/why-the-mandalorian-works-better-than-the-movies-opinion"] "I think I am going to enjoy it much more," he admitted. "[The prequels] were all blue screen and green screen and it was hard to imagine, but nowadays I think things have moved on so much, and I think a lot of what you see is gonna be what we see on the set. "I don't know if you've seen the behind-the-scenes of The Mandalorian series, but they employ that incredible screen... it's pretty amazing. It makes you feel like you're in the place, it's going to feel realer for us, as actors. And I think we'll be using some of that technology on our show." For The Mandalorian, Lucasfilm utilised a cutting-edge technology, known as "StageCraft," that projects high-resolution imagery onto LED screens, which wrap around sets to create reactive surroundings for actors to immerse themselves into their environments. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=obi-wans-greatest-moments&captions=true"] The Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which was originally set to be a movie, is set to take place 8 years after Revenge of the Sith and will be directed by Deborah Chow, who helmed episodes of The Mandalorian. Joby Harold also recently signed on as a writer for the series, even though its production has been on hold since the beginning of the year. For more, find out everything we know about the series and watch the moment that the long-awaited show was revealed at the D23 Expo 2019. Pokemon Go Is Getting Mega Evolution

Mega Evolution is coming to Pokemon Go, with a new mechanic based on the mainline games' popular system. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/17/pokemon-presents-full-show"] Announced as part of Pokemon Presents, no mega evolved Pokemon were shown, but Tsunekazu Ishihara, CEO of The Pokemon Company, promised that this new take on Mega Evolution will be enhanced by Pokemon Go's unique gameplay. In the mainline Pokemon games, Mega Evolution is a temporary form of evolution used in battle. It was introduced in the sixth generation of Pokemon games, and there are 46 species of Pokemon that can mega evolve. As the announcement for Pokemon Go's introduction of the mechanic was brief, there is no word yet on which Mega Evolution forms will be available, but it's sensible to assume that if a Pokemon in Pokemon Go can Mega Evolve in the core games, then it stands a chance of doing the same in the mobile game. In other news from Pokemon Presents, Pokemon Snap is coming to Switch, and a new free-to-start game, Pokemon Cafe Mix, is coming to Switch and mobile. [poilib element="accentDivider"]

New Pokemon Snap Announced

New Pokemon Snap, a new version of the classic N64 Pokemon photography game, has been announced for Nintendo Switch. The game is currently in development for Nintendo Switch, and is listed as "coming soon". According to the endslate of today's Pokemon Presents broadcast, the game is being developed by Bandai Namco. Per a Pokemon Company description:
"The New Pokémon Snap game for the Nintendo Switch system is based on its namesake, which was first released for the Nintendo 64 console in 1999. This game will take Trainers on an adventure to unknown islands overflowing with natural sights such as jungles and beaches, where they can research various Pokémon in their natural habitats. They will take photos to make their very own in-game Pokémon Photodex, all while discovering new, never-before-seen Pokémon expressions and behaviors."
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/17/pokemon-snap-switch-official-trailer"] The New Pokemon Snap website clarifies that the game will include "deserts, jungles and more". The trailer confirms that Pokemon from multiple generations will appear in the game. The last time we saw Pokemon Snap was when it appeared on Wii U as a Virtual Console game. Back at release in 1999, we awarded the original game a 7.8/10 review, saying "through clever design, intuitive control, lots of traditional secrets and, of course, more than 60 Pokemon to snap pictures of and toy with, it's a game that is a lot of fun in spite of its seemingly simplistic design and nature." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=new-pokemon-snap-30-screenshots-and-trailer-images&captions=true"] New Pokemon Snap was by far the biggest, but far from the only Pokemon announcement today. We also learned about Pokemon Cafe Mix, a free-to-start puzzle game, Pokemon Smile, a free app to help toothbrushing(!), and the fact that Mega Evolutions are coming to Pokemon Go. We'll learn even more next week, when Pokemon Presents returns on June 24, a show which will contain news of another major Pokemon project. The Pokemon Company has announced Pokemon Cafe Mix, a free-to-start puzzle game coming to Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/17/pokemon-cafe-mix-official-trailer"] Revealed as part of Pokemon Presents, in Pokemon Cafe Mix, you are put in the role of the owner of a cafe for Pokemon. Pokemon Smile, a Toothbrushing App, Announced

Pokemon Smile is a new mobile app that uses AR to make tootbrushing more fun for children. It's free, and out now on Apple and Android. Pokemon Smile features over 100 cartoon-y Pokemon that have been trapped by cavity-causing bacteria, and can only be rescued with skilful brishing. Using a phone's front-facing camera, kids (and, let's face it, a lot of adults) will have to clean all their teeth thoroughly to rescue 'em all. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/17/pokemon-smile-official-trailer"] The app can set reminders for toothbrishing, and can have timers set for how long brushing should take. Regularly brushing will unlock virtual Pokemon hats that will appear on the user's head while playing the game - and you can take pictures of the hats, and decorate them after the fact. It's not the first quality of life app associated with Pokemon - Pokemon Sleep was announced last year, with the aim of tracking sleep patterns turning sleeping into entertainment in and of itself. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/17/pokemon-presents-full-show-061720"] Alongside Smile, a Pokemon Presents broadcast today included announcements of New Pokemon SnapPokemon Cafe Mix, a free-to-start puzzle game, and the fact that Mega Evolutions are coming to Pokemon Go.
