Square Enix Announces The World Ends With You Anime Project

Square Enix has revealed that The World Ends With You has become an anime project, and is currently in the works.

A newly-created TWEWY "The Animation" Twitter account notes that a full reveal of the project is coming during Anime Expo Lite on Friday, July 3 at 6pm Pacific / 9pm Eastern (that's July 4 at 2am UK / 11am AEST).

Anime Expo Lite will be a free livestream this year - it previously teased a collaboration with The World Ends With You during its key art reveal back in late May. You can check out the full TWEWY "The Animation" website here, which features a countdown and a glimpse at the 104 building, an iconic set piece from the 2007 Nintendo DS game, set in the Shibuya ward in Tokyo.

If you've never heard of The World Ends With You before, it's a one-off Square Enix RPG with a massive cult following. The game breathes Shibuya youth culture and was worked on by Final Fantasy and Kingdom Heart's character designer Tetsuya Nomura. Characters from the game have featured in Kingdom Hearts games since its release, such as 3DS spin-off Dream Drop Distance. A port of the game was revealed in early 2018 and has since launched on the Nintendo Switch. You can check out our review of the port here, which we called "simultaneously a good port and a bad one." If you need some more convincing, here's an opinion piece detailing why you should care about The World Ends With You. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jordan Oloman is a freelance writer for IGN. The Last of Us Part 2: ‘No Plans’ for DLC

The Last of Us Part 2's director, Neil Druckmann has made clear that there are 'no plans' for DLC after the game's launch. Speaking during a spoilercast for the game on the Kinda Funny Gamescast, Druckmann was asked about whether the new game would follow the original's lead with a Left Behind-style story DLC. "No, with Last of Us I think we had some season pass or something that said ahead of time we have some story DLC - no there's no plans for that." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/12/the-last-of-us-part-2-review"] This doesn't discount a multiplayer take on the game, like The Last of Us' Factions mode, as we've previously heard that that will be released as a standalone game of some kind. The wording of the original announcement - which said "when and where it will be realized is still to be determined" - could suggest the mode will arrive on PS5. We awarded The Last of Us Part 2 a full 10/10 review, and we called it "a masterpiece worthy of its predecessor". If you've finished the game recently, both Podcast Beyond! and the IGN UK Podcast have recorded full spoilercasts on their feelings about the game. Cyberpunk 2077: PC-Exclusive Ray-Tracing Effects Revealed

The PC-exclusive ray-tracing effects coming to Cyberpunk 2077 have been revealed by Nvidia. As part of the graphics card manufacturer's technical partnership with CD Projekt Red, Nvidia is bringing four immersive ray-traced effects to Cyberpunk 2077, which will enhance the game's performance and fine-tune its fidelity. You check out screenshots of the effects in action below: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=cyberpunk-2077-pc-ray-tracing-screenshots&captions=true"] These immersion-bolstering effects include Ray-Traced Diffuse Illumination, which "captures sky radiance" and emissive lighting to ensure that the sun and moon "realistically illuminate Night City." The game will also feature Ray-Traced Reflections which as you might have guessed, make reflections more realistic in how they simulate the way light affects surfaces. Ray-Traced Ambient Occlusion will also affect the game's shading tech on PC, further darkening objects with ambient lighting. Finally, Ray-Traced Shadows have allowed CD Projekt Red to bring "pixel-perfect shadows" to the game, as well as "directional shadows from sun and moon light" to further increase your immersion. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/25/cyberpunk-2077-braindance-gameplay-trailer"] Cyberpunk 2077 will also utilise Nvidia's DLSS 2.0 technology, an AI Rendering system that uses a deep learning neural network to boost frame rates "while generating beautiful, crisp game images," which should in theory allow you to crank the settings on launch. Nvidia also revealed that the game will land on its cloud streaming service, GeForce NOW, at launch, with support for ray-tracing effects baked in. It's possible that these ray-tracing effects could make it to the upgraded PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game arriving post-launch, but there's no confirmation of that right now. For more on Cyberpunk 2077, check out our article covering the four hours of gameplay we experienced during a recent preview. If you missed yesterday's slew of announcements via CD Projekt Red's Night City Wire, you can catch the full broadcast here.  [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jordan Oloman is a freelance writer for IGN. Tenet Delayed to Mid-August Due to Surge in COVID-19 Cases

Christopher Nolan's Tenet has been delayed once more from July 31 to August 12 due to a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases. As reported by THR, Warner Bros. announced the shift and that it will be releasing the film on a Wednesday to "allow audiences to discover the film in their own time."
"Warner Bros. is committed to bringing Tenet to audiences in theaters, on the big screen, when exhibitors are ready and public health officials say it’s time. In this moment what we need to be is flexible, and we are not treating this as a traditional movie release," a Warner Bros. spokesperson said. "We are choosing to open the movie mid-week to allow audiences to discover the film in their own time, and we plan to play longer, over an extended play period far beyond the norm, to develop a very different yet successful release strategy."
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/22/tenet-official-trailer-2"] THR also reports that Disney is expected to move Mulan's July 24 release date. Disney has already postponed Disneyland's planned reopening of July 17 as the state of California will not offer guidelines for reopening themeparks until July 4. Sources have said that WB and Nolan are "taking their cues from the exhibition community in pushing the film to Aug. 12, a Wednesday." Nolan had reportedly been very adamant in his desire to have this upcoming time-bending espionage thriller open in theaters in July, while Warner Bros. was a bit more cautious and wanted to push back the date. WB has also confirmed that the 10th Anniversary re-release of Inception has been moved from July 17 to July 31, so fans of Nolan will be able to see one of his films if that date holds. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-delayed-movie-due-to-coronavirus-so-far&captions=true"] With this new surge, theaters in cities like Los Angeles and New York City may also delay their planned July 10 reopening plans, as there may not be any big movies to draw guests back to the theater. While the wait may be a bit longer for Tenet, be sure to check out Nolan's comments on why it was easier to blow up a real jumbo jet than use VFX and read star John David Washington's comments on how the movie's plot even confused the cast. Ubisoft Responds to Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Its Team Members

Following multiple sexual misconduct allegations against Ubisoft team members, the video game company has issued a statement committing to take "any and all appropriate disciplinary action" against those guilty of abuse. The full statement from Ubisoft is as follows;
"Concerning recent allegations raised against certain Ubisoft team members: We want to start by apologizing to everyone affected by this – we are truly sorry. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive and safe environment for our teams, players, and communities. It is clear we have fallen short of this in the past. We must do better." "We have started by launching investigations into the allegations with the support of specialized external consultants. Based on the outcomes, we are fully committed to taking any and all appropriate disciplinary action. As these investigations are ongoing, we can't comment further. We are also auditing our existing policies, processes, and systems to understand where these have broken down, and to ensure we can better prevent, detect, and punish inappropriate behavior." "We will be sharing additional measures that we are putting in place with our teams in the coming days. Our goal is to foster an environment that our employees, partners, and communities can be proud of –one that reflects our values and that is safe for everyone."
There has already been at least one major change at Ubisoft, as creative director Ashraf Ismail has stepped down from his role on Assassin's Creed: Valhalla following allegations of engaging in extramarital affairs. Ubisoft product and brand manager Andrien Gbingie was also accused of manipulation, emotional abuse, and rape. Gbinigie has denied these allegations in a now removed post on Medium.com. Ubisoft's Stone Chin was said to use "his position within Ubisoft's public relations team to prey on multiple women, with many claiming his behavior has been an 'open secret' for some time." HBO Max Will Not Include These Banned South Park Episodes

South Park is now on HBO Max in its entirety... almost. The lineup on the new streaming service does not include five of the most controversial South Park episodes - as noted by THR, all five episodes include the depiction of religious figures, including the Prophet Muhammad. The revelation shouldn't be news to fans of the long-running animated comedy; all the South Park episodes featuring depictions of Muhammad have been unavailable to stream on services like Netflix, iTunes, Hulu, South Park Studios, Comedy Central, and Amazon Prime Video in the years following their broadcasts.

5 South Park episodes you can't stream on HBO Max:

[ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/06/04/south-park-trey-parker-reveals-his-favorite-episode-of-the-past-5-years] "Super Best Friends" portrayed a superhero team made up of religious figures such as Jesus, Buddha, Moses, Krishna, and Muhammad, the latter being strictly prohibited from being figuratively depicted in Islam. Even so, the episode aired without much controversy in 2005 and was only censored in later years. In IGN's "Super Best Friends" review, we said, "While this isn't one of South Park's best episodes of all time, it stands out because of the sheer audacity of incorporating just about all of the world's major religions in one silly joke." South Park then explored, in its own very meta way, the furor over depicting the prophet in the two-parter "Cartoon Wars," which chronicled the uproar over a cartoon's (in this case, Family Guy) attempt to broadcast an uncensored version of the Prophet Muhammad. The episodes explored the themes of censorship, free speech, and fear, but were also censored by Comedy Central to remove any on-screen depictions or mentions of Muhammad. These episodes were produced following the protests and violence sparked by Danish newspaper cartoon depictions of Muhammad, as well as the assassination of Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh by a Muslim man who objected to van Gogh's short film Submission: Part 1. Series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone revisited the subject of censorship in episodes "200" and "201," the latter being deemed particularly incendiary and which saw Comedy Central beefing up security around their offices. Parker and Stone reportedly received death threats in response to the episodes. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=south-park-topical-episodes&captions=true"] Comedy Central also censored "201," which at the time prompted Parker and Stone to slam the network: "In the 14 years we've been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too."
