Keanu Reeves Is Co-Writing Comic Book Series, BRZRKR

Keanu Reeves is making his comic book-writing debut with BRZRKR, a twelve-issue limited series set to be distributed through BOOM! Studios this October. USA Today reports that Reeves has joined forces with award-winning graphic novelist Matt Kindt to produce the "action-packed and hyperviolent" BRZRKR, with illustrations from acclaimed artist Alessandro Vitti, colorist Bill Crabtree, letterer Clem Robins, and conceptual/cover artist Rafael Grampá. Mark Brooks' variant cover art for BRZRKR is pictured below: [caption id="attachment_2381782" align="alignnone" width="1080"]Image credit: Mark Brooks/Boom! Studios Image credit: Mark Brooks/Boom! Studios[/caption] Out monthly beginning October 7, each issue will tell the story of a warrior, known only as Berzerker, who is said to have "walked a blood-soaked path across the world for centuries." In present day, the Berzerker performs "dangerous jobs for the U.S. government in exchange for the truth about his existence." "He's seen a lot," says Reeves of the main character, adding that the comic book explores a multitude of themes, including "the nature of violence, morals, ethics (and) what side do you choose," as the story attempts to mix "a little fantasy" into the reality. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=8-marvel-characters-keanu-reeves-could-play-in-the-mcu&captions=true"] "I have loved comics since I was a young kid and they have been a significant influence on me artistically," Reeves said in an official statement alongside the announcement, in which he referred to the opportunity to create and collaborate on BRZRKR as "a dream come true." BRZRKR was pitched to BOOM! studios as a comic book with the potential to become a live-action vehicle, especially since the publisher has a first-look deal with Netflix. Reeves said he would love to play Berzerker, adding that "it's a really fun story so if it's not me, hopefully someone can play it." Before signing on for any other projects, however, Reeves is set to reprise one of his most iconic film roles in The Matrix 4. Marvel’s Hawkeye: Disney Plus’ Jeremy Renner Series Adds Three Directors

Marvel has recruited multiple directors to helm episodes of the Disney+ Hawkeye TV series starring Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has tapped Amber Finlayson, Katie Ellwood, and Rhys Thomas to direct a "block of episodes" for the upcoming six-episode season, written and executive produced by former Mad Men scribe Jonathan Igla. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/04/25/marvel-reshuffles-mcu-phase-4-slate-again"] Finlayson and Ellwood, better known by their pen names Bert and Bertie, are a filmmaking duo who burst onto the scene with Amazon's coming-of-age comedy Troop Zero, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year. They also recently helmed episodes of Hulu's acclaimed comedy-drama series The Great, starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. Meanwhile, Thomas has worked on various Saturday Night Live sketches over the course of his career. He made his feature film debut with Staten Island Summer, which was released for digital download in 2015. He then went on to direct Amazon's action-comedy series Comrade Detective, as well as John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch for Netflix. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=marvel-cinematic-universe-every-upcoming-movie-and-tv-show&captions=true"] Hawkeye is set to tackle a story that will see the titular hero train up a new bow-wielding protégé, the popular Kate Bishop, who is also a key character in the Matt Fraction and David Aja Hawkeye comics run from which this Disney+ series has taken its logo design. Hawkeye was supposed to be part of the first wave of Marvel shows hitting Disney's streaming service later this year. However, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the first series in the proposed line-up, appears to have been quietly pushed back from its August release date.
