Oscar Winner Olivia de Havilland Dies at 104

Olivia de Havilland, the two-time Oscar winner that starred in such films as Gone With the Wind, The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Snake Pit, and The Heiress, has died at the age of 104. As reported by THR, De Havilland, who was the last remaining star of Gone With the Wind, passed away on July 26, 2020, from natural causes at her home in Paris, where she had lived for more than 60 years. Her publicist Lisa Goldberg announced the news. OliviaBR The legendary star won her best actress Oscar awards for 1946's To Each His Own and 1949's The Heiress. Her first Oscar nomination was for supporting actress in Gone With the Wind, but she lost to co-star Hattie McDaniel. Besides her incredible career in acting, De Havilland also made an even greater impact on Hollywood with what is now known in legal circles as The De Havilland Decision. In 1943, she came away from the soundstage when she sued Warner Bros. to gain freedom after her seven-year contract had expired. Back in those days, Hollywood lawyers would say that a contract should be considered suspended when the actor/actress was not working, meaning a seven-year contract would last much longer than that. De Havilland, took issue when the Warners tried to prolong her contract following her being suspended for rejecting roles she deemed inferior to where she was in her career. She sued the studio and, in 1945, won the case and became free from her contract and ensured that future artists would be limited to the calendar terms of their deals. “I was deeply gratified when, returning to MGM after his long and distinguished military service, Jimmy Stewart asked the court on the basis of that decision for a ruling on his contract — and thus the contracts of other actor-veterans — and received, of course, a favorable verdict,” de Havilland said in a 1992 interview with Screen Actor. “When I won the final round of my case on Feb. 3, 1945, every actor was now confirmed as free of his long-term contract at the end of its seven-year term, regardless of how many suspensions he had taken during those seven years. No one thought I would win, but after I did, flowers, letters and telegrams arrived from my fellow actors. This was wonderfully rewarding.” Olivia Mary de Havilland was born in Tokyo, Japan, on July 1, 1916, and she moved to California with her mother and sister when she was three years old. She went to Mills College in Oakland, and was signed to her first film by Max Reinhardt after performing in a Hollywood Bowl production of Midummer Night's Dream. Her sister, Joan Fontaine, was also an Academy Award-winning actress and died in December 2013 at the age of 96. De Havilland is survived by her daughter, Gisele, son-in-law Andrew, and niece Deborah. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Have a tip for us? Want to discuss a possible story? Modern Warfare had a similar Double XP promotion that began on October 1, 2019, and the game was officially released on October 25, 2019. While there has yet to be any confirmation for 2020's Call of Duty, there have been reports that Black Ops Cold War is in-fact the name. Snyder Cut of Justice League Won’t Use Any Joss Whedon Footage

Today at Justice Con, Justice League director Zack Snyder stated that he refuses to use even a "single frame" from Joss Whedon's reshoots of the film for his Snyder Cut - which is headed to HBO Max in 2021. Snyder emphatically said that he'd "literally blow that f***ing thing up" before using any of Whedon's footage, stating too that the theatrical version of the film from 2017, which Whedon oversaw the extensive reshoots on, was "separate" from the DCEU timeline. "There would be no chance on Earth that I would use a shot from after I left the movie," he shared. "I would destroy the movie, I would set it on fire, before I use a single frame that I did not photograph," Snyder explained. "That is a f***ing hard fact." You can hear Snyder say all this and more in the full Spotlight on Zack Snyder panel from Justice Con below. The specific comments mentioned above can be found starting around the 35:40 mark... [youtube clip_id="g_Kg6Cxwn18"] Also during Justice Con, Snyder showed fans a sneak peek at the "Snyder Cut of Justice League" by revealing a brief clip of Henry Cavill's Superman in the black costume not seen in the theatrical release. More from Justice Con: Actor Ray Fisher, who plays Cyborg in Justice League, said that there was currently an investigation into his allegations of on-set abuse by Joss Whedon, and that Whedon should be "scared." What We Do In the Shadows: Season 3 Details Revealed

What We Do In the Shadows had a hilarious panel at Comic-Con@Home today, which was featured as part of IGN's Comic-Con 2020 livestream. Before the panel, executive producer Paul Simms spoke to IGN and revealed a number of story details for Season 3 of the show. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/26/what-we-do-in-the-shadows-official-panel-comic-con-2020"] Spoilers for Season 2 of What We Do in the Shadows follow - beware! Simms was asked what he could reveal about the next installment of the vampire mockumentary series, and replied with four new plot details:
  • "We've never seen Nandor with a serious love interest - that might come up."
  • "The fact that last season ended with them almost dying, but Guillermo killing all the other vampires around them definitely is going to have a ripple effect on their standing in the vampire community."
  • "I think some old faces that we might have forgotten about - if you watched Season 2 and said 'boy that's a loose end that they never tied up' - will rear its head in a fun way."
  • "They get a Hellhound to protect the house."
It was more than our own Sydnee Goodman was expecting to hear as a response - and it turns out that was the same for Simms: "That was more than I thought I was going to say, but whatever. It's for the Comic-Con fans - the Comic-Con fans were so nice to us when we went to Comic-Con last year, that that's a special treat for them." We recently watched some Season 2 episodes with the cast of the show, and we learned quite how much they geeked out over Mark Hamill when he was on-set. We have so much more to come from Comic-Con this year - you can check out the full schedule in our rundown of how to watch Comic-Con@Home on IGN Live. Family Guy Spoofs X-Men: Days of Future Past in New Footage

Family Guy fans got their first look at the show's upcoming 19th Season thanks to Fox's Family Guy panel at Comic-Con@Home. The series will continue spoofing all corners of the pop culture universe, including a hilariously gross parody of an iconic X-Men movie scene. Following the panel, Fox tweeted out a sizzle reel of footage from several Season 19 episodes, including the aforementioned X-Men: Days of Future Past gag. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-adult-cartoon-tv-series&captions=true"] The scene recreates that iconic moment from Days of Future Past when Evan Peters' Quicksilver springs to action to save his new friends from certain death. In this case, Meg is called upon to save her family from Chris' disgusting sneeze cloud. Fittingly, the original needle drop from Days of Future Past, Jim Croce's "Time In a Bottle," is replaced with The Cranberries' "Ode to My Family." Also fittingly, Meg seizes the opportunity to prank the others rather than save them from the blast, earning a tiny slice of revenge for being the show's designated punching bag for the past 21 years. This scene and others in the sizzle reel suggest one Season 19 episode will be dealing with a dangerous new strain of flu in Quahog. Whether planned or just a lucky coincidence, Family Guy may wind up being among the first animated sitcoms to capitalize on the COVID-19 pandemic. The sizzle reel also teases a Godfather-inspired episode, with Peter crowning himself the town's newest mafioso and Chris being forced to flee to Italy, a la Michael Corleone. Other teased storylines include Stewie breaking up with his stuffed animal Rupert and Brian discovering he has 1% cat DNA. You can watch the full Family Guy panel in the video below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/25/family-guy-official-panel-comic-con-2020"] As we recently learned, Family Guy: Season 19 will debut on Sunday, September 27. The series will be facing some big changes in the near future, as voice actor Mike Henry is stepping down from his role as Cleveland Brown. Watch This Snyder Cut Clip of Superman in the Black Suit!

Director Zack Snyder provided fans watching his appearance at Saturday's JusticeCon with a sneak peek at The Snyder Cut of Justice League by revealing a brief clip of Henry Cavill's Superman in the black costume not seen in the theatrical release. In the clip, which can be viewed below, Superman arrives at Bruce Wayne's lake house where Alfred Pennyworth (Jeremy Irons) is working on a car. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/zack-snyder-reveals-henry-cavill-in-snyder-cut-black-superman-suit-clip"] Alfred first becomes aware of something about to happen when his the liquid in his glass ripples. That's when Superman, now back from the dead, lands. Smiling, Superman ascends the steps towards Alfred, who's clearly anxious to see him. "I'm assuming you're Alfred?" Superman asks. That's where the clip ends. This Superman clip isn't the only big news to come out of JusticeCon. Cyborg actor Ray Fisher addressed his recent accusations against reshoots director Joss Whedon of abusive behavior on set. Fisher believes Whedon is "scared" of the ongoing investigation and invited him to sue him if he thinks what Fisher is claiming is untrue or damaging. Snyder also confirmed that none of Whedon's footage will be used in the Snyder Cut of Justice League. Work on The Snyder Cut is underway with a release on HBO Max coming sometime in the first half of 2021.
