Texas Officials Apologise After Accidentally Sending Amber Alert for Chucky, the Cursed Doll

The Texas Public Safety Department has apologized for accidentally sending out an Amber alert emergency message that said Chucky, the murderous doll from Child's Play, was the suspect in a kidnapping. Amber alerts are used to notify the public of a kidnapping or missing child – meaning no one should have gotten one about Chucky, the orange-haired, denim overalls-wearing, rampaging murderous doll from Child's Play. That's what happened to citizens in Texas recently, according to The Guardian. [caption id="attachment_2468988" align="alignnone" width="1141"]The Amber alert for Glen and Chucky. (Source: Click2Houston/Texas Public Safety Department) The Amber alert for Glen and Chucky. (Source: Click2Houston/Texas Public Safety Department)[/caption] The Amber alert, which was beamed out to all phones not just once, but three separate times, described the suspect as a 16-pound, 3-foot-1, 28 year-old doll named Chucky, with red-auburn hair and blue eyes. As if that description wasn't enough to confirm that it's the doll we all fear, the alert also said Chucky was seen wearing blue denim overalls with a striped long-sleeve shirt and carrying a large knife. To top it off, the victim in the kidnapping was Chucky's in-universe son, Glen. It's one thing to receive this message from an unknown number, but imagine receiving this message from your state's official emergency channels. According to The Guardian, Texas Public Safety Department issued an apology, saying said "this alert is a result of a test malfunction," and that it apologizes "for the confusion this may have caused and (the state is) diligently working to ensure this does not happen again." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/24/is-chucky-the-greatest-movie-slasher-of-all-time"] Confusion is a bit of an understatement considering an Amber alert like this would have been downright terrifying, but nonetheless, it was all the result of a malfunction and not of the horror-slasher character coming to life. Thank goodness. For more Chucky coverage, be sure to check out our review of his latest movie outing, Child's Play, and then watch this video discussing whether or not Chucky is the greatest movie slasher of all time. Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! Has Over 100 Skins, but No Loot Boxes

Crash Bandicoot is coming to mobile devices later this year with King’s Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! During a hands-off preview event hosted by Apple, developer King shared more details about the surprisingly robust mobile game, including how it will feature hundreds of skins, but no loot boxes at all. Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! Brings together Crash-style platforming with an auto-runner. Jump and spin your way past familiar levels and boss fights while Crash automatically runs through a given level. Taking a page from Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, On the Run! Will feature over a hundred different skins for Crash and Coco. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/04/crash-bandicoot-on-the-run-new-gameplay"] During a Q&A, King did not reveal the primary ladder in which players can earn skins but confirmed that there would “absolutely no loot boxes at all.” Instead, Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! Will feature numerous systems, including seasonal content and a battle pass. The seasonal content will include special challenges, storylines, and a unique boss. King dove deep into the history of Crash to find both fan-favorite and obscure bosses for Crash to face. One such boss is Mr. Crumb who appeared only once before in Crash history. Another layer to On the Run! Is Coco’s Base, a resource management mode in between runs where players can customize and build out different parts of the base. Players can earn trophies and other physical items from runs they can then place around the base, or spend resources to build and upgrade new structures. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=crash-bandicoot-on-the-run-screenshots&captions=true"] On the whole Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! Looks like a love letter to fans of the series. Levels and enemies are pulled from the deep well of Crash Bandicoot history, and features like Coco’s Base, asynchronous PvP races, and a Guild/Clan system offer a level of depth beyond the typical auto-runner on mobile. Pre-purchase for Crash Bandicoot: On the Run is available now on the App Store. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M. Kim is a reporter for IGN.

League of Legends: Wild Rift New Screenshots and Gameplay

League of Legends: Wild Rift, Riot’s long-awaited mobile version of its popular MOBA, is finally coming to North America in March. During a new preview hosted by Apple, IGN has learned that while there won’t be parity between Wild Rift and the PC version out the gate, Riot is aiming to have “70 or so” Champions at the onset. The Apple-focused event spent a lot of time discussing some of the benefits of League of Legends: Wild Rift on iPhone 12s, including smooth performance and network connectivity thanks to 5G. But ultimately it was a chance to get a good look at Wild Rift before its North American debut next month. As you’d expect, League of Legends: Wild Rift is a mobile version of the PC MOBA. Riot says it’s completely built from the ground-up for mobile rather than a port, and because of the updated models and maps Wild Rift is actually the “most high-fidelity League of Legends experience” on any device, including PC. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/02/03/league-of-legends-wild-rift-ashe-gameplay"] While there won’t be parity with the PC version, Riot says there will be 70+ Champions on Wild Rift compared to the over 150 on PC. But Riot is making a big push for Wild Rift, calling it a version of League of Legends that can fit best within people’s lives. Whether they want to pursue hardcore competitive modes or play a casual game during downtime. Riot estimate that games on average take about 17-minutes, so possible on some commutes. Riot makes it clear that this isn’t League of Legends “Lite” and that newcomers and veterans will find the same League of Legends experience with Wild Rift as they do on PC. Riot is even planning competitions based on the mobile version exclusively. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=league-of-legends-wild-rift-iphone-12-screenshots&captions=true"] And for longtime League of Legends players, Wild Rift will compensate your dedication to the series when you log into the mobile version. Wild Rift will reward veteran players with adequate “compensation” once they connect their Riot Account, though the developers didn’t clarify what those rewards might entail. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.

Total War: Warhammer 3 Announced for 2021

Creative Assembly has announced Total War: Warhammer 3, which will arrive in 2021 for PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store). "In Total War: WARHAMMER III each choice you make will shape the reality-shattering conflict to come," reads the trailer's description, "from the mysterious Lands of the East to the daemon-infested Realms of Chaos. Will you conquer your daemons? Or command them?" A trailer (below) shows a battle between the Kingdom of Kislev and a Khorne-aligned Chaos force, with teases for Nurgle, Slaanesh and Tzeentch Chaos forces, and a final peek at a Cathay faction: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/02/03/total-war-warhammer-iii-announce-trailer"] This will be the video game debut for Kislev and Cathay factions, and publisher Sega promises, "players will wage war with the most diverse array of legendary heroes, gargantuan monsters, flying creatures and magical powers that the series has ever seen." As for the new campaign, Sega says players will be tasked with "saving or exploiting the power of a dying god. Each race offers a unique journey through the nightmarish Chaos Realm, culminating in an endgame that will determine the fate of the world." “Our vision, from the start, was to create a series that felt like an incredible journey through this world we all loved.,” said game director, Ian Roxburgh in a press release. “The enormous support of our players in ensuring the success of the first two instalments has pushed our ambition to new heights, and we can’t wait for everyone to experience it.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/09/25/total-war-warhammer-2-review"] We awarded Total War: Warhammer 2 a huge 9.1/10 review, saying, "The story and objective-driven campaign is a league above anything we’ve seen in the entire Total War series before in both design and presentation." We weren't the only people to like it: Superman himself, Henry Cavill is a huge fan, and ended up becoming an Easter egg in his own favourite game. 2K Will Still Publish Borderlands Despite Gearbox Takeover

2K has confirmed that it will remain the publisher of the Borderlands games, despite the recent announcement that Gearbox has been acquired by Embracer. In a statement sent to IGN, a 2K spokesperson said: "As the proud publisher of the Borderlands franchise, we are happy for our partners at Gearbox and this exciting new chapter for their organization. The merger does not change 2K’s relationship with Gearbox nor our role as the publisher for the Borderlands IP or any other projects we are currently working on with the studio. We look forward to continuing our long-term partnership with this incredibly talented team and delivering many more exciting entertainment experiences to gaming fans around the world.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/09/10/borderlands-3-review"] Embracer, a video games holding company, publishes games via THQ Nordic, its primary publishing subsidiary. As such, some may have wondered if Borderlands would switch from being published by 2K to THQ Nordic or Deep Silver, another publishing company owned by Embracer. But, as 2K have now made clear, that will not be the case. Embracer recently acquired 13 companies in one day, but Gearbox signals the company's highest profile developer catch so far.
