The ex-lead writer of Overwatch, Michael Chu, is working on a "multiplayer character-action game" for new 2K Games studio 31st Union. Twitter user MauroNL put together a thread looking at 31st Union's job openings. The most telling nugget of info comes from the Senior Software Engineer listing, which calls 31st Union's upcoming game a "multiplatform multiplayer character-action game," which sounds like a similar premise to other hero shooters such as Overwatch or Team Fortress 2. A Senior Engine Programmer listing also calls the game "AAA," desiring a candidate familiar with "PS4, Xbox One, IOS and Android development tools." Other listings mention familiarity with Unreal Engine 4, suggesting this is the engine the game is being built in. "Our mission is not only to tell diverse, representative stories, but to create systems that will enable us to authentically and accurately represent underrepresented groups from around the world, and perhaps most importantly, to foster an inclusive environment where these stories are told by a broad and diverse group of creators who speak with their own voices, from their own experiences," his blog post reads. A Writer listing for the mysterious upcoming game mentions how the candidate will be responsible for pitching "original characters and storylines" as well as working on in-game factions to "shape the future of storytelling in online multiplayer gaming." An opening for a Senior World / Level Designer talks about the need for those experienced in "online multiplayer action games" to "own map ideas from inception to completion" with a focus on fine-tuning post-launch. "Can take a set of systems or player abilities and build spaces that highlight those abilities in interesting and creative ways," the listing reads. That specific mention of player abilities adds to the mounting evidence that the game will be a hero shooter in the vein of Overwatch. Potential Software Engineers will work on matchmaking, telemetry, replay, latency spikes and more, and will need to "improve network code resistance to cheating and security exploits," which are all facets of a successful multiplayer character-action game. VG247 reported in early 2020 that according to a Take-Two earnings call, 31st Union's game was going to be revealed "over the coming months," but plans may have been impacted by the pandemic. 31st Union is based in San Mateo, California and was established back in February of 2019, with the studio's name being revealed in February of 2020. The team is being led by Michael Condrey, previously the co-founder of Sledgehammer Games. Elsewhere at 2K, another new studio known as Cloud Chamber is working on a brand new Bioshock game. Update (2/11/21) - Adam Wingard has clarified that his Face/Off film will be a direct sequel to the 1997 action film, not a remake or re-imagining. "I would NEVER re-imagine or remake FACE/OF. The newest season of Fortnite marches on with another pop collaboration. This time, Fortnite is getting cosmetic outfits from Tron. The “End of Line” Collection available now in the Fortnite Item Shop will kit your character out for the Grid. Skins include outfits that will make your character look like Cypher, Firewall, Proxy, Datapath, Packet, Bitstream, Commandline, Upload, Io, and Bandwidth. Additional accessories range from a Light Cycle rideable Glider and Identity Disc Pickaxe and Back Bling. While last season focused exclusively on Marvel heroes, Season 5 “Zero Point” is reaching far across the multiverse and plucking heroes left and right, whether they’re from video games, movies, or comics. Tron is a 1982 sci-fi film starring Jeff Bridges as a young software engineer who gets sucked into a computer world known as the Grid. A direct sequel was released in 2010 called Tron Legacy. Clue, the popular murder-mystery board game, will be turned into an animated series over at Fox, according to new reports. Deadline says Fox is working with Hasbro’s Entertainment One content studio on a new animated series based on the long-running board game. Fox-owned Bento Box will be working on the series. There are no further details on the project, but Bento Box is the animation studio behind hit series like Bob’s Burgers if that’s any indication of the direction Fox and Hasbro are looking to take with the board game adaptation. Players take on the roles of either Colonel Mustard, Professor Plum, Ms. Peacock, Ms. Scarlett, or Mr. Green and players investigate the board for clues to find out who killed Mr. Body. In 1985 a Clue movie was released starring Tim Curry. The comedy followed a similar premise and even included multiple endings with a different murderer for each. Although the Clue movie went on to become a famous bomb at the box office, it has since gained cult status. Meanwhile, Hasbro has been busy licensing its brands for films and TV. Entertainment One is overseeing a new connected Power Rangers universe across movies and television, and Risk is set for a TV adaptation from House of Cards creator Beau Willimon. WonderCon 2021 has decided to go virtual again this year, with the potential for a physical event in Anaheim canceled by the event organizer Comic-Con International.

The Anaheim, California comic book and geek culture convention, organized by the same group behind San Diego Comic-Con, was originally scheduled for March 26 - 28. CCI has instead opted to produce another digital event, dubbed WonderCon@Home, that will run from March 26 - 27.

“2020 was a difficult year all around,” CCI said in a statement. “For the first time in the history of our organization, we were unable to have in-person events for WonderCon or Comic-Con. We have hoped that by now, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic might have subsided enough that we could once again come together in person for a traditional WonderCon event. Sadly, as we continue to monitor the latest information from healthcare officials, we have determined the interest of public safety will prevent this spring’s WonderCon from moving forward as an in-person convention.”

Similar to last year’s virtual event, WonderCon@Home will feature panels posted to YouTube.

CCI added that the cancellation of the past year’s worth of events, along with postponement of others, has left the organization with “limited financial resources.”

Marvel Comics is greatly expanding the lineup of the Guardians of the Galaxy this year. And while most members are veterans of the team from one incarnation or another, there's one new recruit we never saw coming - Doctor Doom. This new roster will be introduced over the course of several months, beginning in April's Guardians of the Galaxy #13. In this so-called "New Age of Space," the Guardians have been deputized by the Galactic Council and are now the first line of defense across the Marvel Universe. To manage such a monumental task, they'll be extending invitations to everyone from former Young Avengers Wiccan and Hulking to Greek god Hercules to Doom himself. While it remains to be seen why Doom would have any interest in leaving his kingdom of Latveria behind in favor of gallivanting in space, it is worth remembering Doom has played a role in cosmic matters before. He christened himself "God Emperor Doom" in 2015's Secret Wars, ruling over Battleworld and all that remained of the Marvel multiverse. Doom's story has veered in other bizarre directions since, with the character even going through a brief period where he replaced Tony Stark as "The Infamous Iron Man." This new storyline also features the return of original Quasar Wendell Vaughn, which should be interesting given that his successor, Avril Kincaid, is also on the team. After 35 days of 35 different PogChamps, Twitch will let its audience vote on a new permanent face for the hype emote tomorrow in a livestream. In a tweet today, Twitch announced that a stream will take place February 12 on the main page of Twitch at 3 pm ET / 12 pm PT / 8 pm UK / 7 am AET (on February 13), in which viewers will be able to vote between the 35 former Pogchamps that Twitch has highlighted, one a day, since early January. PogChamp candidates will include numerous popular streamers such as UnRooolie (the first person named PogChamp for a day after Twitch began the initiative), UmiNoKaiju, Omega 'CriticalBard' Jones, TheGrefg, Kahlief Adams, Deere, Loserfruit, Zayuri, Techniq, today's PogChamp SteveInSpawn, and a lizard emoji that is not attributed to an actual person's channel known as KomodoHype. In a development that can only be described as the Hitchcock and Scully of bad news, NBC has both postponed the return of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and confirmed the upcoming Season 8 will mark the end of the beloved sitcom. This is the latest in a series of delays for Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Season 8. The season was originally expected to begin in Fall 2020, but finished episodes of Season 8 were officially scrapped in June, as showrunner Dan Goor revealed the crew opted to "start over" in light of ongoing protests against police brutality and the death of George Floyd. NBC later revealed the series would return in 2021, but the network now confirms Season 8 has been reduced to 10 episodes and won't premiere before 2022. "I’m so thankful to NBC and Universal Television for allowing us to give these characters and our fans the ending they deserve. When Mike Schur and I first pitched the pilot episode to Andy [Samberg], he said, ‘I’m in, but I think the only way to tell this story is over exactly 153 episodes,’ which was crazy because that was exactly the number Mike and I had envisioned." “I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with this amazing cast and crew for eight seasons. They are not only among the most talented people in the business, they are all good human beings who have become a family. But most of all, I feel lucky that we have had the best fans in the world. Fans who literally saved us from cancellation. Fans who fill us with joy. Ending the show was a difficult decision, but ultimately, we felt it was the best way to honor the characters, the story and our viewers. I know some people will be disappointed it’s ending so soon, but honestly, I’m grateful it lasted this long. Title of my sex tape.” 

The silver lining to this news is that Season 8 will mark the show's third outing on NBC since Brooklyn Nine-Nine was originally canceled by Fox  in 2018. The series very nearly ended much sooner. Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 will be released in 2022 on NBC and NBCUniversal's streaming platform Peacock. Barring any future casting changes, we're expecting the full regular cast to return for Season 8, which includes Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Joel McKinnon Miller and Dirk Blocker.
