Keanu Reeves BRZRKR Film and Anime Series Announced for Netflix
Keanu Reeves recently made his comic book writing debut on the BOOM! Studios series BRZRKR, and now the actor will produce and star in a live-action BRZRKR movie and anime series on Netflix.
Netflix has acquired the rights to the series just weeks after the March 3 release of BRZRKR #1. The live-action movie will be released first, though no release timetable has been revealed. The anime series will follow later and expand on characters and story elements introduced in the movie. Reeves will also lend his voice to the anime.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=brzrkr-get-a-sneak-peek-of-keanu-reeves-new-comic&captions=true"]
The BRZRKR comic is written by Reeves and Matt Kindt (MIND MGMT), with art by Ron Garney (Daredevil), colors by Bill Crabtree (The Sixth Gun), letters by Clem Robins (100 Bullets), and character designs and covers by Rafael Grampá (Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child). The series follows a protagonist named B, an immortal demigod who's spent 80,000 years honing his skills as a killer. In the present, B works as an agent of the US government, hoping to finally uncover the truth of his existence and find a way to end his unnaturally long life.
As you can see from the preview art above, the character B is directly modeled after Reeves himself, so it's likely he and his collaborators were planning for a film version from the very beginning.
Along with Reeves, BOOM! Studios executives Ross Richie and Stephen Christy and Company Films' Stephen Hamel will produce the movie. BOOM's Adam Yoelin will executive produce. Netflix has yet to announce a writer, director or other cast members.
The BRZRKR comic will run for 12 issues in total and will also be collected into three graphic novels. BOOM! also offered the series on Kickstarter last September, giving readers the chance to purchase exclusive versions of all three graphic novels.

Reeves's next big action movie will be The Matrix 4, which hits theaters and HBO Max on December 22. Reeves is also set to begin production on the fourth and fifth John Wick movies in 2021, which will shoot back-to-back. Kindt, meanwhile, recently made headlines by creating one of the world's first single-release NFT comics.

Hawkeye Disney Plus Spinoff Starring Echo Reportedly In the Works
The Disney Plus Hawkeye show isn't even out yet, but the streamer is already putting together at least one spinoff from the show, one focused on the character Echo.
Variety reports that a new show focused on Echo, a deaf Native American character played by Alaqua Cox in the upcoming Hawkeye series, is in development for Disney Plus.
Echo is a Marvel Comics character created by David Mack and Joe Quesada, first appearing in Daredevil Vol. 2 #9. Real name Maya Lopez, Echo has the ability to perfectly copy anyone's fighting style (much like Black Widow villain Taskmaster). She winds up being Daredevil's enemy and Matt Murdock's love interest, and eventually joins the New Avengers as the first Ronin. The latter identity is one that Hawkeye occasionally takes on also, as seen in Avengers: Endgame when Hawkeye travels the post-Blip world fighting various criminal organizations.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=whos-who-in-marvels-hawkeye-on-disney-plus&captions=true"]
Echo's comic arc sees her tangled up with a bunch of Marvel characters, not just Hawkeye and Daredevil, but also Moon Knight. This makes Echo a bridge between possible Disney Plus shows like the planned Moon Knight series starring Oscar Isaac.
Hawkeye, and the potential Echo spinoff, are just one of many, many shows in development for Disney Plus. WandaVision has already wrapped its first season and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier recently premiered. But other series like Loki, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and more are on the way.
And if the reports of an Echo spinoff are true, it means Marvel is opening the doors for even more shows spinning-off from the previously announced titles. Could we see a Hellcat spinoff from She-Hulk? Or a Skrull spinoff series from Secret Invasion? Disney seems open to the possibilities.
Check out IGN's full cast breakdown for Hawkeye, and read Kevin Fiege's latest update on the state of the different Disney Plus Marvel shows.

‘Release The Ayer Cut’ Starts Trending After DC Denies Another Suicide Squad Release
Update:
Hours after WarnerMedia Studios CEO Ann Sarnoff shot down chances of releasing an expanded director's cut of David Ayer's Suicide Squad, the hashtag #ReleaseTheAyerCut began trending on Twitter.
After an interview with Sarnoff on the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, Twitter began buzzing about a potential David Ayer cut of 2016's Suicide Squad. Ayer previously revealed that they shot more scenes of Jared Leto's Joker than what was ultimately shown in the theatrical version of the movie.
Ayer himself commented on the Variety interview and Sarnoff's comments on Twitter by tweeting out the link and writing, "Why?" followed by a sad emoji.
— David Ayer (@DavidAyerMovies) March 22, 2021A quick search for #ReleaseTheAyerCut is already filled with commenters on Twitter decrying the double standard of releasing Zack Snyder's vision for Justice League while declining to do the same for other directors. And social media hashtags were how the movement to get Zack Snyder's Justice League released got its start, which could be further incentive to get the hashtag trending on Twitter. But based on the interview, Sarnoff seems unmoved to work on another extended director's cut. At least until fans crowdfund another airplane banner to fly over Comic-Con. Original story continues... [poilib element="accentDivider"] While Zack Snyder's Justice League has been making waves over over the Internet since it was first confirmed last year, fans shouldn't expect a trend of more director's cuts of past DCEU movies hitting HBO Max. WarnerMedia Studios CEO Ann Sarnoff has shot down any possibility of an "Ayer Cut" of 2016's Suicide Squad. "We won’t be developing David Ayer’s cut," Sarnoff told Variety. Nor does it appear that WarnerMedia has any plans to continue the continuity of Snyder's films beyond The Snyder Cut of Justice League. Despite Snyder discussing his original plans for a five-movie DC saga, Sarnoff referred to the Snyder Cut as "the completion of his trilogy." "I appreciate that they love Zack’s work and we are very thankful for his many contributions to DC," said Sarnoff in reference to the "Restore the Snyder-Verse" movement. "We’re just so happy that he could bring his cut of the 'Justice League' to life because that wasn’t in the plan until about a year ago. With that comes the completion of his trilogy. We’re very happy we’ve done this, but we’re very excited about the plans we have for all the multi-dimensional DC characters that are being developed right now." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-suicide-squad-whos-who-full-cast-and-character-reveals&captions=true"] Many fans have speculated the release of the Snyder Cut could pave the way for an Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad, given the equally tumultuous postproduction history of that particular DC film. Ayer himself has spoken openly about the significant differences between his version of the film and the one released in theaters, including revealing that his version featured a different main villain and would have had much stronger ties to Justice League. Ayer also confirmed his version would have featured much more of Jared Leto's Joker. Ayer has also suggested releasing his version of Suicide Squad would be a relatively cheap and simple process, estimating the costs at $20-30 million, as opposed to the Snyder Cut's rumored $70 million price tag. “This is a good question,” Ayer tweeted in response to Collider. “My cut would be easy to complete. It would be incredibly cathartic for me. It’s exhausting getting your ass kicked for a film that got the Edward Scissorhands treatment. The film I made has never been seen.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/21/the-true-story-behind-the-snyder-cut"] Regardless of how "easy" an Ayer Cut might be, however, fans clearly shouldn't be holding their breath for that director's cut to become a reality. Still, given that the Snyder Cut went from myth to reality very suddenly in 2020, we can't entirely rule out the possibility. For now, WarnerMedia's focus is on James Gunn's upcoming sequel, The Suicide Squad, which is one of several major Warner Bros. films hitting theaters and HBO Max simultaneously in 2021. The Suicide Squad is also getting a prequel series on HBO Max starring John Cena's character Peacemaker. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jesse is a mild-mannered staff writer for IGN. Zatanna Movie Reportedly in the Works from Promising Young Woman Writer
A Zatanna movie is reportedly in the works at DC Films, with the writer of Promising Young Woman reportedly writing the script.
Variety reports that Emerald Fennell has been hired to write a Zatanna movie from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions. The plan is reportedly to release the movie in theaters.
Fennell was a writer and executive producer on Killing Eve and played Camilla Parker-Bowles in Season 3 of The Crown. Fennell rose to fame in 2020 with the release of her feature-length directorial and writing debut, Promising Young Woman, which is nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and BAFTAs.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/15/zack-snyders-justice-league-review"]
IGN confirmed in 2020 that Abrams is developing TV and movie projects about Justice League Dark. Zatanna is part of the original Justice League Dark team, but there's no confirmation at this time that the Zatanna movie and the Justice League Dark projects are related. Abrams is also working on a new Superman movie.
Zatanna previously made it to the big screen as a cameo in Teen Titans Go! to the Movies and in live-action on the series Smallville played by Serinda Swan. The character most recently popped up in the direct-to-video movie Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, where the character is played by Camilla Luddington.
The character was introduced in the comic Hawkman #4 in 1968 by writer Gardner Fox and artist Murphy Anderson. Zatanna is a stage magician who, along with her family, has real powers including teleportation, flying, and the ability to heal.

Zatanna is the latest in an extremely long list of DC Films productions reportedly in the works. Within the past few months, there have been confirmed reports of a new Superman movie, a Blue Beetle movie, and a Static Shock movie, on top of rumors of an Hourman movie. And, of course, there are the DC movies with release dates including The Suicide Squad, The Batman, The Flash, and so much more.
IGN recently published its Zack Snyder's Justice League review, where we praised the movie for its, "mature approach to its superhero drama, better-realized antagonists, and improved action." Check out IGN's guide on where to watch Zack Snyder's Justice League.

Resident Evil Showcase Broadcast Coming in April
The Resident Evil series celebrates its 25th Anniversary today, and to celebrate Capcom has announced another Resident Evil showcase for April.
Capcom won’t reveal what’s set to be at the showcase next month, but Capcom previously hosted a Resident Evil showcase in January that focused primarily on the next game in the series Resident Evil: Village.
At the last showcase, Capcom announced the different retail versions for Resident Evil: Village and released a surprise, PS5-exclusive Maiden demo for free. At the time, Resident Evil producer Pete Fabiano said a multi-platform demo would be released sometime this spring.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/21/resident-evil-village-story-trailer"]
Capcom also announced that Resident Evil Re: Verse, a new PvP online experience, is getting an open beta in April for all platforms. From April 7 to April 11, players will be able to play Resident Evil Re: Verse on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
Re: Verse is a PvP multiplayer mode that will be available for anyone who purchases Resident Evil Village. Play as iconic characters like Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield and battle it out to see which team can get the most points. If you’re defeated, there’s a chance you can revive as a famous Resident Evil bioweapon for a second chance to take down whoever killed you.
As part of the anniversary celebration, Capcom also announced that Resident Evil: Village and Resident Evil 7 will be coming to Google Stadia. Village will be available on Stadia the same day as on other platforms, and Resident Evil 7 will be available on April 1 and will be free for Stadia Pro members.

Vin Diesel’s Son Reportedly Playing Young Dominic in Fast & Furious 9
Vin Diesel's son Vincent Sinclair is reportedly playing a younger version of Vin's character, Dominic Toretto, in Fast & Furious 9.
According to a recent TMZ report, Sinclair actually filmed his scenes for F9 back in late 2019, though it isn't clear exactly how much screentime the 10-year-old has locked in for the ninth instalment of the Fast & Furious franchise, which stars his father alongside John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, and others.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/02/f9-fast-and-furious-9-big-game-spot"]
The younger Dominic Toretto was last played by Alex McGee who appeared during a flashback scene in 2015's Furious 7. It appears that Sinclair will be playing a similar role as he is set to portray Dom in his younger years, likely starring in a flashback sequence, which could possibly indicate a flash from the past showing the relationship between Dom and his long-lost brother who is appearing in the film.
WWE superstar John Cena will be portraying Dom's younger brother Jakob in the present time, though it isn't expected to be a pleasant family reunion as Charlize Theron's criminal mastermind, Cipher, has enlisted the help of Jakob, who is a deadly assassin and high-performance driver, to take revenge on Dom and his team as part of a world-shattering plot.
It's unknown at this stage whether the family will be reuniting on the ground or in outer space, as several of the movie's stars have previously alluded to the possibility of the F9 crew being catapulted into the cosmos, especially given the fact that the globe-trotting, billion-dollar franchise has already tackled virtually all extremes on earth over the course of its 19-year silver screen life.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=f9-character-posters&captions=true"]
Had the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic not struck, we would already know whether or not F9 goes to space as the movie was originally set to release on May 22 of last year. However, it was delayed to May 2021 as a result of the pandemic. F9 isn't the only Fast and Furious delay in the wake of the pandemic as Fast & Furious Crossroads was delayed as well.
