Mortal Kombat Movie’s Fights Aim to Be True to the Games, and the Characters

The fights in Mortal Kombat are true to the games and the characters involved, according to one of the movie's producers. With the release of the official red band trailer last month for the movie, fans received a good look at the ways the movie is similar to the characters and fights seen in the games. Mortal Kombat producer, Todd Garner, recently spoke to ScreenRant about the movie's commitment to its fights and staying true to the games. "Every single fight in this movie has its own personality, and it's true to not only the game, but it's true to the character," Garner said. "So I can't tell you who's fighting, but there's one of the most brutal fights I've ever seen on film." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/02/18/mortal-kombat-movie-official-red-band-trailer"] Considering the trailer's already shown Sub-Zero freezing Scorpion's own blood to create a dagger that he then stabs Scorpion with, Garner's hype around a fight he calls the "most brutal" is especially exciting. Garner goes on to say that this fight he's referring to is "the most violent, hand-to-hand, insane" fight and that "it's not who you would expect to have a fight." The producer also talked about Mortal Kombat's variety in fight choreography too, which further speaks to the movie's aim to be true to the games, as he put it. "There's also a beautiful operatic fight," Garner told ScreenRant. "There's swordsmanship and then you have a moment where you've seen in the trailer where Sub-Zero freezes Scorpion's blood and stabs him with it. So every fight has its own personality." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/02/19/mortal-kombat-movie-vs-game-characters-compared"] Fans of Mortal Kombat will get a chance to see how true to the games and the characters' personalities the movie is when it releases in theaters and on HBO Max on April 16. While waiting for that to release, read this story about how the movie is trying to respect the games' legacy and then read about how it's aiming to push its R-rating to the limit. Check out the second official trailer after that and then read about how the director tried to avoid green screen as much as possible when making the movie. Developer Behaviour Interactive is releasing a new collection of cosmetics called Seoul Sights to celebrate the occassion. Earlier this month, Dead by Daylight added the newest killer/survivor pair to its asymmetrical PvP horror game. Themed around the world of K-Pop, Dead by Daylight's new killer is called The Trickster, a murderous K-Pop star whose quest for the spotlight led him towards a path of murder. Now that The Trickster is out for blood, Lee is on the chopping block. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/29/dead-by-daylight-seoul-sights-collection-trailer"] Behaviour Interactive worked with K-Pop singer Kevin Woo from the band U-KISS to help get the K-Pop elements of the chapter right. "I love how this chapter captures all the amazing elements of K-pop including the eye-catching visuals of the characters, addictive music, and cultural backdrop with a horror twist," says Woo. "I have no doubt that the K-Pop community will fall in love with this chapter as much as I did and I hope people who aren't familiar with K-Pop will get introduced to it through the All-Kill chapter." The Seoul Sights collection adds Korean streewear-style outfits including rare outfits for the survivor Yun-Jin, a rare skin for The Trickster, and more outfits for survivors Adam Francis, Feng Ming, Felix Richter, Elodie Rakoto, and Dwight Fairfield. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/29/dead-by-daylight-all-kill-release-date-teaser"] Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer game where four players control survivors who must work together and escape a fifth player who controls a killer. The killers include a mix of original and known horror characters, including murderers from Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Saw, Scream, and Silent Hill. Check out IGN's review of Dead by Daylight here, where we awarded the horror game a 9 out of 10 for its gameplay and roster of both famous and original horror killers. PAX East 2021 Cancelled, Organisers ‘Cautiously Optimistic’ for PAX West and PAX Unplugged

PAX organisers ReedPop and Penny Arcade have announced that PAX East 2021 has been cancelled. “In light of ongoing public health concerns, ReedPop and Penny Arcade will not hold PAX East this year,” the companies said in a statement. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/17/the-biggest-games-coming-in-2021"] As an alternative, another PAX Online convention will be held July 15-18, and an Indie Showcase will take place between now and then. ReedPop promise further details will be made available soon. “We will only move forward with a live PAX once we are confident the show will be safe for everyone,” the statement reads. It states that both ReedPop and Penny Arcade are “cautiously optimistic” that it will be adequately safe to hold PAX West and PAX Unplugged as live events, on September 3-6 and December 10-12, respectively. While quarantine measures and vaccination roll-out plans remain a work in progress, it’s likely that many video game events will be cancelled again in 2021, or at least moved into the digital space. ESA has already confirmed that E3 2021 will be a digital event this year. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt Purslow is IGN's UK News and Entertainment Writer.

Cyberpunk 2077 1.2 Patch Fixes One of the Game’s Best/Worst Typos

Cyberpunk 2077's 1.2 patch notes are huge, with literally hundreds of changes listed, which means the little details can easily get lost. One of the smaller changes did catch our eye, however – the game's most visible typo will finally be fixed by the update, which arrived for PC and consoles today. Shortly after release, players (including IGN's own Mitchell Saltzman, below) began noticing that a frankly enormous sign in Cyberpunk's open world misspelled the name of Night City, the game's main location. As you drove out of the south side of town, you pass through a border checkpoint emblazoned with the phrase, "LEAVING NIGTH CITY". Fans on Twitter, Reddit, and beyond quickly picked up on the odd spelling. Some even questioned whether it might be deliberate – not as far-fetched an idea as it might seem, given that the developers have said one alleged typo is actually an intentional play on words. In the case of the Nigth City sign, however, the most recent patch notes have made clear that it was not intentional after all, and will be seeing a fix. In the Environment and Levels section of the notes, a small note reads, "Fixed the misspelled Leaving Night City sign." If you haven't already, it might be time to head to the tunnel and take a selfie with the sign, as it's about to be consigned to the Recycle Bin of history. If you need to find it, check out our interactive Cyberpunk 2077 map – it's right by the Border Checkpoint fast travel point. As we said, it marks one small note in an avalanche of changes seemingly coming with the long-awaited 1.2 patch for the game. CD Projekt Red has previously said that this patch would "fix the most prominent problems gamers are facing on last-gen consoles," after the game launched with major issues, particularly for PS4 and Xbox One. Whether it then returns to the PS Store after more than 100 days remains an unanswered question. Dungeons & Dragons Massive Tiamat Miniature Announced

Today, WizKids has revealed to IGN it is developing its largest TTRPG miniature to date, an absolutely massive, game-scale premium model of Tiamat, the five-headed fiendish goddess, mother, and queen of chromatic dragons. Slated to hit store shelves in September of this year and available for pre-order in the WizKids online shop, the miniature will be priced "under $400" with more details to come, and tower over your player characters, monster miniatures, most of your terrain pieces, and likely some small pets at 28.9 inches (73.4 cm) wide, 14.6 inches (37.1 cm) tall, and 16.8 inches (42.8 cm) long, supported by a 200mm clear round base. This new miniature will be the largest officially licensed, playable representation of the classic Dungeons & Dragons antagonist since her earliest incarnation by D&D co-creator Gary Gygax back in 1975. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/29/dungeons-dragons-tiamat-premium-miniature-render-preview"]

Get a glimpse of the newly revealed Tiamat premium miniature by WizKids from every angle in the preview video above.

Speaking with IGN, WizKids executive producer of RPGs, Patrick O'Hagan, shared insight about what it took to bring the classic Dungeons & Dragons tyrant to life like never before. "Tiamat was so much fun for us to bring to life as so many people are familiar with this classic D&D entity and can envision how she looks with her unique, five-headed form. This version of Tiamat will be the largest mini we have ever worked on." "There are so many challenges to doing something on this scale – the components, the weight, the size, and the engineering of her use," O'Hagan said. "Remember she isn’t just a statue – we want folks to play with her on their tables! Ultimately these challenges weighted against what we felt was a price fans were willing to pay for her." [poilib element="quoteBox" parameters="excerpt=Remember%20she%20isn%E2%80%99t%20just%20a%20statue%20%E2%80%93%20we%20want%20folks%20to%20play%20with%20her%20on%20their%20tables!"] But there's more to capturing the essence of such an emblematic creature than sheer size, as O'Hagan revealed. Her chaotic and savage multi-color-headed form is both a literal and symbolic representation of the classic chromatic dragons—red, green, blue, black, and white—so sculpting those defining qualities was important. "We want to bring the books to life and create realistic, to scale minis that bring terror, as with Tiamat, along with laughter and joy to people’s game tables. We want to show action and movement," O'Hagan said. "The iconic image of her coming out of the portal from Tyranny of Dragons is so amazing we wanted to take that and bring it to people’s tables. We felt it time to truly showcase Tiamat and give her the spotlight to shine in all her epic glory, focusing on her size and overall wild nature that so many love about her."

Check out the final concept renders of the upcoming Tiamat premium miniature by WizKids to see what it will look like on your table.

No stranger to massive TTRPG miniatures, WizKids has steadily released a line of incredibly large, and incredibly detailed miniatures designed to dominate the table, including the recently released gargantuan ancient white dragon Arveiaturace, the Walking Statue of Waterdeep, and the imposing terrain centerpiece simply called The Tower. And while the premium Tiamat miniature will be the largest creature the company has created thus far, WizKids is committed to bringing many more of Dungeons & Dragons' most iconic elements to life, and the game table. "We have been working with [Dungeons & Dragons developer Wizards of the Coast] for the last seven years with the launch of [Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition]. In the last year, we have really been pushing the envelope to bring the most iconic elements of D&D to player’s tabletops: Adult & Gargantuan Dragons, The Falling Star, The D&D Tower, the Yawning Portal. "We are dedicated to bringing those D&D moments to the tabletop community. You can imagine we have a full slate for the next three years in the works. We work closely with Wizards of the Coast on all of our product launches. We want to ensure that as they create new fantastical experiences, we support these, as well as dive into the back catalog for the things that we haven’t created yet...".
