Xbox Games With Gold for August Revealed

Microsoft has revealed the Xbox Games with Gold lineup for August 2020, which features survival RPG Portal Knights, Xbox classic Red Faction II and more. All of the games listed below will be free for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Live Gold subscribers and will unlock across the course of August, with Override: Mech City Brawl available until early September.
  • Portal Knights (August 1 to 31 on Xbox One)
  • Override: Mech City Brawl (August 16 to September 15 on Xbox One)
  • MX Unleashed (August 1 to 15 on Xbox One and Xbox 360)
  • Red Faction II (August 16 to 31 on Xbox One and Xbox 360)
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/28/xbox-august-2020-games-with-gold-trailer"] Portal Knights is a survival RPG with multiplayer sandbox elements and can be played online with up to 4 players in the same world. Override: Mech City Brawl is a 3D mech brawler which includes a single-player campaign and a co-op mode where each player can control part of the mech suit. For the classic games this month we've got MX Unleashed, a freestyle motocross simulator which we called "a winner" back in 2004 when we reviewed it. Rounding off the quad is Red Faction II, in which you can lead a rebellion on Mars and as per usual for the Red Faction franchise, cause heaps of destruction. You can still pick up WRC 8, Dunk Lords and Juju from July's Xbox Games With Gold if you're yet to redeem them, but act fast, as Juju and WRC 8 expire on Friday the 31st. Red Dead Online Adds the Naturalist Frontier Pursuit in New Update

As promised last week, Rockstar has updated Red Dead Online with a new Frontier Pursuit. Today the developer has detailed the pursuit, which is called The Naturalist and focuses on tracking Legendary Animals. As a Naturalist, players will work with Harriet Davenport, who aims to protect and study the region’s rarest animals. You’ll be required to track these species, sedate them with the new Varmint Rifle, and draw blood samples to be handed to Harriet. A Revive Tonic can be used to rouse sedated animals so they are not left vulnerable to predators and hunters. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/09/05/red-dead-online-frontier-pursuits-trailer"] Naturalists can also brew other tonics, including Weight Loss and Weight Gain Tonics, and drinks that allow you to more easily sneak up on potential animal subjects. Other brews will mitigate weather effects. Alternatively, players may want to work for big game hunter Gus MacMillan, who will pay a generous fee for the pelts of these rare animals, and even tailor them into unique clothing. Animals can be more efficiently hunted with the new Elephant Rifle and its one-shot, one-kill Nitro Express ammunition. However, working with Gus will sour your relationship with Harriet, so you’ll want to choose wisely. Your targets as part of this Frontier Pursuit include seven new Legendary Animals, and each of those have three subspecies. An Animal Field Guide acts as a sort of Pokedex to complete while on your animal-discovery travels. Naturalists can learn new skills including Mercy Kill, use an advanced camera, and partake in two animal-based Free Roam Events: Protect Legendary Animals and Animal Tagging. They also have access to role-specific weapons, outfits, and a horse. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/11/27/the-first-17-minutes-of-red-dead-online-gameplay"] Legendary Animal Sighting Missions allow you to raid the camps of poachers and liberate their caged animals. Or, should you choose to, you can break them out and immediately kill them for their pelts. Alongside the Naturalist content, the update also improves the Threat indicator, and implements Asynchronous Matchmaking, new Daily Challenges, new Daily Challenge rewards, and an improved wardrobe system. A new Outlaw Pass with 80 ranks allows players to unlock bonuses including 40 gold bars, XP boosts, new weapon metals and engravings, the Australian Shepherd camp dog, and filters for the Advanced Camera. PS4 users will also get free gifts in the form of 10 sedative ammo, 5 animal revive tonics, and 5 blending tonics, as well as early access bonuses: the Woodcote poncho, The Legendary Ram, and The Coastal, Oceanic, and Megafauna Fossil collection sets. The update comes in the wake of the Red Dead Online community protesting against Rockstar for not updating the game with new content. Modder Creates New Zelda Adventure in Ocarina of Time Engine

A modder known for working on modding Mario games has created an entirely new Zelda adventure. Along with a few friends, Kaze Emanuar created a new unofficial Zelda game in the Ocarina of Time engine, titled The Legend of Zelda: The Missing Link. This fan-made game takes place in between Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, the two Legend of Zelda games released on the N64. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-zelda-review-score&captions=true"] Thanks to borrowing Ocarina's assets, The Missing Link fits right in with the aesthetic of those legendary Zelda titles. The launch trailer for the game sets a melancholy vibe, similar to the tone of Majora's Mask. In a playthrough video on YouTube, Emanuar and CDi-Fails, who also worked on the game, go through the adventure while also talking about the creative process. Walking through Kokiri Forest, the creators talk about how they made the color palette darker to signify the passage of time. As for what's new, there's an original dungeon, and a new time travel mechanic not seen in either N64 Zelda adventure. The game only takes about an hour to finish, but it is complete with a final boss battle and a credit sequence. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/06/12/breath-of-the-wild-sequel-team-drew-inspiration-from-red-dead-redemption-2-e3-2019"] For more N64 news, check out the huge Nintendo source code leak from this week, where it may have been confirmed that Luigi was planned to be playable in Super Mario 64. Cuphead Surprise Released on PS4

Cuphead has been surprise released on PlayStation 4, and developer Studio MDHR has announced a free update coming to the existing Xbox One version. Announced during an interview with Geoff Keighley on a Summer Game Fest stream, the beautiful, challenging combat-platformer will be available on PS4 for $19.99 USD / £15.99 (no Australian prices available at time of writing). MDHR co-founder Chad Moldenhauer said: "To all the impassioned PlayStation fans who've sent us messages over the years: we're so excited for you to get a chance to experience Cuphead firsthand. We're also hugely thankful to the wonderful team at Xbox, who continue to empower us to bring our game and our story to new audiences." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/28/cuphead-playstation-4-launch-trailer"] The upcoming Xbox update will add "a digital art gallery, behind-the-scenes commentary features, and playable soundtrack to the game." No date has been given for the update's release. It marks one of the last major platforms to see a Cuphead release, after it sold 6 million copies across Xbox, PC, Mac, and Switch. A DLC expansion, The Delicious Last Course is still due to release this year after a delay, and MDHR says we'll learn more in the coming months, but no release date was given, with Studio MDHR COO Maja Moldenhauer saying it will "come out when it's ready". Moldenhauer added that the DLC will feature more advanced animation than that seen in the already stunning original game. We're also waiting for more information on The Cuphead Show, a Netflix TV series currently in development - for which we recently got a first teaser trailer. Batman: Death in the Family – Exclusive Official Trailer

IGN is pleased to debut the exclusive trailer for DC Showcase - Batman: Death in the Family, the next animated DC Universe movie from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, and the first to feature interactive storytelling elements. You can watch the trailer in the player above or embedded below. DC Showcase - Batman: Death in the Family will debut on Blu-ray and Digital HD in Fall 2020. An adaptation of the 1988 comic book storyline of the same name, Death in the Family chronicles the tragic death of second Robin Jason Todd at the hand of the Joker. The film is essentially a prequel to 2010's Batman: Under the Red Hood and will feature several returning voice actors, including Bruce Greenwood as Batman, Vincent Martella as Jason Todd, and John DiMaggio as Joker. The cast also includes Zehra Fazal (Young Justice) as Talia al Ghul and Gary Cole (Veep) as both Two-Face and Commissioner Gordon. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/28/dc-showcase-batman-death-in-the-family-exclusive-official-trailer"] However, Death in the Family isn't a straightforward prequel, but rather an interactive short film with multiple branching story paths (a la Netflix's Black Mirror: Bandersnatch). Viewers will be presented with choices at pivotal moments in the story, allowing them to decide whether Jason lives or dies and determining the course of Jason's life. The trailer hints at some major deviations from established continuity, with Jason returning to Gotham as a bandaged assassin and taking up the mantle of Red Robin. This interactive element is likely a callback to the original comic's infamous fan-voting campaign. DC established a 1-900 number, allowing fans to call and vote on whether they wanted Jason to live or die. The "die" vote narrowly won out, though DC did eventually resurrect the character in 2005's Batman: Under the Hood (the inspiration for the Under the Red Hood movie). DC also called back to that poll following an episode of Titans: Season 2 last year. [caption id="attachment_2385344" align="alignnone" width="720"]DC Showcase - Batman: Death in the Family is the DC's first interactive animated film. Batman: Death in the Family is the DC's first interactive animated film.[/caption] Similar to 2010's Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam, Batman: Death in the Family will include several other DC animated shorts to make up for its shorter runtime. Also included in this set are the previously released Sgt. Rock, Death, Adam Strange, and The Phantom Stranger short films. 2020 has been a busy year in terms of new animated DC movies. WBHE has already released Superman: Red Son and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.  In our Apokolips War review, we praised the film's narrative for veering "into some very surprising and compelling directions, and somehow it manages to pay off on loose ends from across the DCU while still chronicling the final battle between the Justice League and Darkseid." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-dc-animated-movie-in-development&captions=true"] DC's next animated movie will be Superman: Man of Tomorrow, which features a new take on the Man of Steel's origin story. Man of Tomorrow will release on Digital HD on Sunday, August 23 and on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD on Tuesday, September 8. And be sure to check out our roundup of every DC Universe Movie review in the 15-film continuity that recently ended with Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. Doctor Strange: Benedict Cumberbatch Visits Comic Book Store In-Costume

Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson has shared a throwback video from 2016, which shows Benedict Cumberbatch visiting a comic book store dressed in his character's full costume. The behind-the-scenes footage, shared by Derrickson on Twitter, captures a "never before shown moment" of a previously-reported incident that occurred while taking a break from filming scenes for Marvel's Doctor Strange in New York. "I'm about to walk into a comic store in Manhattan dressed as Doctor Strange, come with me," Cumberbatch says to the camera at the start of the clip, before proceeding to surprise customers with his grand entrance into the shop. Once inside the establishment, Cumberbatch shakes hands and exchanges a few words with the employees, who seize the opportunity to ask for a photo of him at the store, holding the Marvel Comics issue Doctor Strange: The Oath. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/14/what-is-doctor-strange-2s-multiverse-of-madness"] Cumberbatch is expected to make his next official appearance as the Sorcerer Supreme in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Evil Dead and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is taking over directing duties on the Doctor Strange sequel, which was originally scheduled to be released next year, however, it has now been pushed back to March 25, 2022, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous: Netflix Release Date and Trailer

Netflix has shared a teaser trailer for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, a new CG-animated series slated to premiere on September 18. The YouTube trailer shows a group of six teenagers journeying through the gates of Camp Cretaceous for a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will see them band together in order to survive, as they get up close and personal with the dinosaurs wreaking havoc across the island, which is located on the opposite side of Isla Nublar. [caption id="attachment_2385517" align="alignnone" width="1000"]Image credit: Netflix Image credit: Netflix[/caption] Netflix also dropped a thrilling new poster for the highly anticipated series. The one-sheet highlights a new era of wonder and thrills where dinosaurs and humankind must learn to coexist, as it depicts two of the young campers zip-lining away from one of the most dangerous dinos at Camp Cretaceous. Alongside the latest promotional material, it has been revealed that the eight-episode action-adventure series will debut globally on Netflix on September 18. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/06/04/jurassic-world-camp-cretaceous-season-1-trailer"] Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is coming from executive producers Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow and Frank Marshall, together with Scott Kreamer and Aaron Hammersley who are serving as both executive producers and showrunners on the new series, which was developed by Zack Stentz, who is credited as the show's consulting producer. The voice cast features Paul-Mikél Williams as resident dinosaur expert Darius; Jenna Ortega as social media sensation Brooklynn; Ryan Potter as self-appointed VIP Kenji; Raini Rodriguez as gregarious and enthusiastic Sammy; Sean Giambrone as sensitive and bookish Ben; and Kausar Mohammed as world-class athlete Yaz. Elsewhere, Jameela Jamil and Glen Powell recur as camp counsellors Roxie and Dave. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=jurassic-world-comes-alive-through-new-mattel-figures&captions=true"] Earlier this year, Mattel released a batch of new Jurassic World toys to tie-in with the upcoming Netflix series, along with a few other figures that recreate iconic moments from the original Jurassic Park and 2015's Jurassic World. Jurassic World: Dominion, the final film in the Jurassic World trilogy, is currently in production and scheduled to stomp into theaters on June 11, 2021. Halloween Ends Will Attempt to Bring ‘Closure’ to the Michael Myers and Laurie Strode Story

Halloween Ends director David Gordon Green is attempting to bring closure to the saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. In an interview with Total Film, Green touched on a number of aspects of his next two Halloween movies, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. His 2018 film, Halloween, centered around the decades-long fight between famed killer Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. It was meant to serve as the beginning of the end, and Green has indicated that the end is where his trilogy is heading. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=18-things-we-learned-on-the-set-of-blumhouses-halloween&captions=true"] "It's a very different movie than Kills, and both Halloweens," Green said in reference to Ends. "The script feels very fun. For me, it was essential to say, 'here's a conclusive episode to my trilogy.' I'm trying to bring closure to my 'Laurie Strode versus Michael Myers' storytelling." Ends is the third film in the trilogy that began with 2018's Halloween. Before getting to Ends though, Kills will release. Kills was set to release this October but has since been delayed almost a full year to Oct. 15, 2021. When asked how Kills would differentiate itself from the Halloween movies that have come before it, Green said the sequel will be much angrier. "If the first film was somewhat retelling the origin of Myers and getting us up to speed with where Laurie has been all those years, then part two is about the outrage of Haddonfield," Green said. "'Mob Rules' was our working title for the film. It's about a community that is united by outrage, and divided in how to deal with evil." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/08/halloween-kills-official-trailer-1"] Green said Kills features less of the comedy present in Halloween and will bring back more characters from the original movie, released in 1978. Read about the announcement of Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends to find out what you can expect in the two sequels and then read our thoughts about the 2018 movie in our Halloween review. Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Island Backup Service Arrives This Month

Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Summer Update - Wave 2 will arrive on July 30, 2020, and will bring with it a weekly fireworks show, that ability to visit other's islands while dreaming, and the long awaited Island Backup and Restoration Service. The Island Backup and Restoration Service was one that had been promised for a while and was of importance because, currently, if you were to lose or break your Switch, your island would be gone with it. With this new service, Nintendo Switch Online members can enable this new backup system that will automatically upload island and user save data to the internet at certain times. If you were to lose or break your switch, and this was enabled, Nintendo Customer Support would be able to get you back on your island as you last left it. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/28/animal-crossing-new-horizons-summer-update-wave-2-trailer"] Furthermore, Nintendo has reminded us that this is separate from the Save Data Cloud functionality offered for other games, so the option to move an island to another Switch that wasn't lost, stolen, or damaged is still not ready. However, later this year, Nintendo will release an update that will allow players to move users and save data to another system. As for the fireworks show, this will take place every Sunday at 7pm. Players can redeem Bells for raffle tickets in the plaza to "get various festive items." Players will even be able to upload custom firework designs to see their creations light up the night sky. Lastly, the dreaming feature will begin when players choose to take a nap in any bed placed in their home. Once asleep, Luna will greet you and give you a chance to visit other islands as a dream, or give you the chance to allow others to visit yours. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=animal-crossing-new-horizons-summer-update-wave-2-screenshots&captions=true"] This is different from visiting another island through multiplayer, as nothing you do is permanent or saved, so players are free to explore other's islands without consequence. All it takes to visit one of these dream islands is getting that person's "Dream Address." This will be the second summer update that follows Wave 1 that brought ocean swimming, new characters, sea creatures, and much more. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Have a tip for us? Powerful New Charizard Card Features the Pokemon’s Gigantamax Form

The next Pokemon TCG: Sword and Shield expansion Darkness Ablaze is almost upon us (release date August 14) and when it arrives it’ll debut a powerful new Charizard card featuring the fan-favorite Pokemon’s fiery Gigantamax form. IGN is excited to offer your official first look at the English version of Charizard V, Charizard VMAX and a few other cards from the upcoming set such as Butterfree V, Houndoom V and Suicune. Take a look by clicking through the slideshow gallery below: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=Charizard-and-more-from-darkness-ablaze-ign-exclusive&captions=true"]

A Surefire Investment

It goes without saying that these Charizard cards will immediately become collector’s items. Regardless of whether a Charizard card is considered competitively viable in the game or not, you can always count on it earning some value on the secondary market. Last year a shiny Charizard-GX sold for over $10,000 at auction. Charizard VMAX is notable for being the first-ever card featuring the mighty Gigantamax Charizard.

Playing With Fire

Sure, getting cash for your cards is cool, but can this Charizard VMAX melt your opponent's face in a Pokemon match? Let’s discuss how to use it in the game. Forget the days of Base Set Charizard doing a mere 100 damage. After you evolve Charizard V into Charizard VMAX, it hits for a staggering 300 damage with its G-Max Wildfire attack and stands tall with an above-average 330 HP. Those are some impressive stats, but just like Ash’s unruly Charizard in the anime, it’s incredible power will be a challenge to use effectively. The current Pokemon TCG metagame features gargantuan Pokemon VMAX that typically knock each other out in two hits, and they give up three Prize cards when they go down. Remember, a game of Pokemon ends when six Prizes cards are taken, so the strategy for Charizard VMAX should be to land a one-hit knockout two on Pokemon VMAX to win the game. Many opposing Pokemon VMAX have 320 HP -- and the new Eternatus VMAX also debuting in Darkness Ablaze has 340 HP! -- so even though Charizard hits like an erupting volcano, its 300 damage falls just short of scoring a one-hit knockout. That means we’re going to need a little help to hit those numbers. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=charizard-vmax-support-cards&captions=true"] Luckily, there are a few cards that can help out Charizard, like Galarian Zigzagoon (a Pokemon that does 10 damage when played) and Vitality Band (a Tool that adds 10 damage to attacks when equipped to a Pokemon). Alternatively, you could first soften up a Pokemon VMAX by attacking it with a single-Prize Pokemon like Volcanion or spreading damage onto it with Salamence VMAX, then Charizard VMAX can swoop in on those flaming wings and finish it off. Now that we have an idea of how to make the G-Max Wildfire attack work, there’s the little matter of powering it up. Five energy is a pretty tall order, but there are a couple options available to help satisfy this expensive attack cost. If you go second, Volcanion’s Flare Starter attack allows you to attach three Fire energy from the deck, which is a simple and effective way to get off to a strong start. There’s also the always-popular Supporter card Welder, which allows you to attach two Fire energy from hand. Once you get three Fire energy on Charizard, you can then lean on Triple Acceleration Energy to get you the rest of the way there. So while Charizard VMAX is incredibly powerful, it will take some ingenuity to unlock its potential. Let us know how you would approach building a Charizard VMAX deck down in the comments. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/05/04/pokemons-real-metal-pokeballs-can-hold-anything"] Darkness Ablaze releases on August 14. Players can get their hands on some of the new cards early by purchasing a Build & Battle Box starting on August 1. With normal pre-release events being canceled for the time being, Build & Battle Boxes provide a selection of Pokemon, Trainers and Energy along with some Darkness Ablaze booster packs for you to build a deck to battle against a friend.
