How the Persona Series Succeeds by Casting the Player as a Sympathetic Ear

Caution! Spoilers for Persona 5 ahoy!

One of the standout things about the Persona series is the way it celebrates the power of friendship.

Yes, each instalment has its own unique thematic thread. Persona 3, for example, dealt with kids confronting their mortality, while Persona 4 highlighted the importance of accepting who you are, even the bits you don't like and, more recently, Persona 5 asked if it was possible to redeem evil people by forcibly changing their hearts and whether it'd be ethically right to do so.

Yet, throughout of each these games, the protagonists explore these themes by forming unbreakable bonds with those around them.

How Man of Steel Sets Up Superman’s Comic Book Future

Man of Steel #6 hit stores today, ending writer Brian Michael Bendis' first major Superman storyline. But while the first battle between Superman and Rogol Zaar is over, Bendis' plans for the franchise have just begin. Man of Steel #6 paves the way for Bendis to take over DC's monthly Superman and Action Comics titles and the return of Supergirl's solo series.

Scroll down for a recap of the big developments in Man of Steel and how Bendis is setting the stage for a new era for the Superman comics.

Rogol Zaar - Krypton's Destroyer?

Bendis' most significant addition to the Superman mythos so far is Rogol Zaar, a powerful new villain who claims to be responsible for Krypton's destruction. Whether Zaar is telling the truth remains to be seen, but he's already proven himself more than a match for both Superman and Supergirl on multiple occasions.

The Venture Bros. Explained: What You Need to Know Before Season 7

The good news for Venture Bros. fans is that Season 7 is finally premiering on August 5. The bad news is that it's been well over two years since Season 6 aired. We don't blame anyone who might have trouble remembering what happened last time around, especially given how complicated the show's mythology has become over the years.

To help prepare for the new season, we've put together a guide breaking down all the major characters and storylines in play for Season 7. Whether you're new to The Venture Bros. or just need a refresher, here's everything that's happened in this crazy universe up to this point.

The Basics

The Venture Bros. started out as a fairly straightforward parody of the Jonny Quest franchise. The series largely revolves around the Venture family - cranky, self-loathing Dr. Rusty Venture and his two adventure-craving sons, Hank and Dean - and their intrepid bodyguard Brock Samson. The first season of the series featured these four embarking on one globe-trotting adventure after another, usually with the evil Monarch and his henchmen trying their best to ruin the day.

Opinion: The Problems Marvel’s Netflix Shows Need to Fix

Remember the good old days, back in 2013, when we were all excited at the prospect of an interconnected universe of Marvel shows that would end in an epic crossover, á la The Avengers? Shows that might even tie in with the movies? When the first season of Daredevil premiered in 2015, its approach to the superhero origin story and gritty tone was met with wide acclaim – it even got the r/Arrow sub-reddit to temporarily become a Daredevil forum right after season 2 premiered.

Daredevil gave us a gut-punching, back-flipping first season with the best fight scene in a confined space since Oldboy, a thrilling story with all the darkness and broodiness of Arrow (but a more grown-up approach), and one of the best TV villains in recent memory. It was followed by Jessica Jones, which was applauded for its complex themes and strong cast - but then came a series of misfires, from the disappointing conclusion of Luke Cage Season 1 to the soulless Iron Fist. And when The Defenders finally assembled for their long-awaited team up, the result was a muddled, anticlimactic mess that squandered most of the goodwill that fans had for the concept.

First Details on New Intellivision Console Controller, Games

You might have missed it, but just before E3 2018 a new challenger entered the console war: The Intellivision is returning nearly four decades after it initially launched.

The original Intellivision, released as a competitor to the Atari VCS in 1979, had a much better controller than the Atari and a great library of often oddball games. According to current Intellivision Entertainment president, Tommy Tallarico, the controller and games remain the focus of the next-generation Intellivision. Speaking to IGN at E3 2018, Tallarico shared a few new details about the console, its controller, its planned library, and his vision for what could make it a success alongside modern PCs, phones, consoles, and even its resurrected rival, the upcoming re-launched Atari VCS.

The Celeste Speedrun That Was Physically Impossible

Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) concluded recently and, as it does every year, it went out with an excellent lineup of impressive speedruns and a remarkable load of cash for charity.

One of our favorite runs of the event this time around was the incredible Celeste Any% TAS. While most speedruns are executed by skilled human players, TASBot runs are a little different – they are run by a robot.

TASBot, to be exact.
