Watchmen Star Malin Akerman ‘Really Struggled’ as Silk Spectre

While landing a lead role in a blockbuster superhero movie can be a major boost to an up-and-coming actor's career, it can also come with some serious downsides. Case in point - Watchmen star Malin Ackerman reveals she "felt way out of my league" with the ambitious superhero comic adaptation and struggled to take ownership of the Silk Spectre role. Ackerman spoke candidly about her Watchmen performance during an appearance on Collider Ladies Night. At the time, Ackerman had just begin to break into mainstream Hollywood thanks to films like 27 Dresses and The Heartbreak Kid, and she admitted to feeling out of her depth and unprepared to take part in director Zack Snyder's superhero epic. [caption id="attachment_2348449" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]Akerman as Silk Spectre in 2009's Watchmen. Akerman as Silk Spectre in 2009's Watchmen.[/caption] Ackerman told Collider, "I will say that Watchmen was a big shift because I felt way out of my league on that one. I really struggled because it was such a big film and I really felt like I had no idea what I was doing. I had no training and I was working with these fabulous theater actors who had all the training in the world. I definitely didn’t feel worthy of being there." Fortunately, Ackerman seems to have made peace with her experience on Watchmen, describing it as "a turning point" for her career and a valuable learning experience. "I look back on it now, I loved the experience as far as the people I got to work with and to have been a part of that beautiful production and I’m thankful that it woke me up a little bit to the importance of preparation, and just so that I can grow from that experience. I think any growth, then it’s been worth it." When asked whether she'd like a second chance at playing Silk Spectre, Ackerman said, "I would love to do it actually! It would feel like I’d get a second chance at it.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=watchmen-all-the-comic-book-references-in-the-hbo-series&captions=true"] Unfortunately, a direct sequel to Snyder's Watchmen seems unlikely at this point. HBO's Watchmen series acted as its own continuation of the original Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons comic, with Jean Smart taking over the role of an older Laurie Blake. Watchmen wound up being IGN's pick for the best TV series of 2019. Unfortunately, Watchmen Season 2 is looking about as likely as Snyder's Watchmen 2 at this point. Creator Damon Lindelof has said he doesn't have any ideas in mind for a second season, and HBO recently rebranded Watchmen as a limited series. However, the silver lining here is that the experience of making Watchmen has made Lindelof more amenable to the idea of working in the MCU. Suicide Squad Director Says Most of Jared Leto’s Joker Footage ‘Remains Unseen’

Suicide Squad director David Ayer has shared his thoughts on Jared Leto's portrayal of Joker, saying his "heart breaks" for the actor. Ayer, who helmed the first Suicide Squad movie in 2016, recently responded to a follower on Twitter, who shared the opinion that Leto's Joker "was too creepy for compassion, and his look didn't convince everyone like Batfleck did, appearances matter." Ayer tweeted back, "For sure character creation is a tightrope. I took inspiration from the current DC comics. I find it incredible it's still such a topic 5 years later. My heart breaks for Jared – he did magnificent work. Most of it remains unseen." Suicide Squad's David Ayer on Jared Leto's Joker Previous reports have indicated that there was a lot of drama behind the scenes during the production of Suicide Squad as Ayer and Warner Bros. executives struggled to settle on the appropriate tone, which apparently resulted in two different cuts of the movie. After reportedly receiving feedback from test screenings of the two different cuts, Ayer and Warners' execs sought to find "a very common-ground place," and the lighter, studio-favoured option ultimately won out, leaving several Joker scenes on the cutting room floor. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2016/06/06/7-totally-fake-things-jared-leto-did-to-prepare-for-his-joker-role"] In 2016, Leto himself said there were "a lot of scenes" he wished had made it into the theatrical release but unfortunately didn't make the cut, adding, "Hopefully they will see the light of day. But who knows." Shortly after the release of Suicide Squad, reports surfaced of a standalone Joker movie centred on Leto's tattoo-laden version of the Clown Prince of Crime, with sources saying Leto would star in and produce the project. However, less than a year after these reports, it came to light that Leto's Joker film had "fallen by the wayside." Instead, DC's Joker origin movie starring Joaquin Phoenix was ushered onto the big screen a few months later. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=visual-history-of-joker&captions=true"] Phoenix went on to win an Academy Award for his chilling portrayal of the iconic DC supervillain, who has appeared in multiple live-action incarnations over the years. It's fair to say that each first look at the character has provoked a different response -- with each seemingly more divisive among fandom than the last. Cyberpunk 2077 Will Let You Customise Your Genitals

The ESRB has published its ratings report for Cyberpunk 2077, which includes a new bit of information about the game's character creator - you can now customise your player-character's genitals. Per the report, "Players can select a gender and customize their character; customization can include depictions of breasts, buttocks, and genitalia, as well as various sizes and combinations of genitals." This would appear to be a part of CD Projekt Red's decision not to include a traditional gender option in the game, instead offering a "really inclusive" expanded character customization menu. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/05/cyberpunk-2077-gets-adults-only-rating-in-australia"] The report also makes mention of "in-game purchases", but CD Projekt Red has subsequently told IGN that these refer to the ability to buy future DLC expansions for the game, not microtransactions: "As we've said before", said a spokersperson for the company, "Cyberpunk 2077 is a single player game with no microtransactions. The ESRB info is based on the fact that expansions require the base game and are therefore treated as a purchase by the rating board." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=100-new-cyberpunk-2077-screenshots-gangs-characters-and-playstyles-revealed&captions=true"] Much of the report - which awards the game an M 17+ rating - focuses on the adult content mentioned in the previous Australian ratings report, including suggested sexual actions, extreme violence and gore, and swearing. "Players can encounter events where they have the option to engage in sexual activities with other main characters or prostitutes," says the report. "These brief sex scenes (from a first-person perspective) depict partially nude characters moaning suggestively while moving through various positions. Some scenes contain brief depictions of thrusting motions; other scenes depict a character's head moving towards a partner's crotch." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/05/28/cyberpunk-2077-53-gameplay-details"] It seems we'll learn more during the Night City Wire event on June 11. With Cyberpunk 2077 increasingly close to its September 17 release date, it feels likely that we'd see more gameplay, and perhaps a breakdown of its still somewhat mysterious storyline. It's also possible that we'd learn about the game's DLC plans, with CD Projekt Red recently suggesting that it will reveal expansions before release. Cyberpunk 2077 is part of IGN’s Summer of Gaming. This year will also see Cyberpunk 2077 grace the very last special edition Xbox One X. For more, check out IGN’s Cyberpunk 2077 preview and Cyberpunk 2077 wiki for our full coverage. The Surface Book 3 Gets Quad-Core CPUs and Quadro RTX Graphics

The Surface Book 3 has gotten a major power upgrade thanks to Intel 10th Generation processors and Nvidia’s latest Turing-series GTX, and even Quadro RTX, graphics. The 15-inch version of the Surface Book 3 look particularly exciting now that you can have a quad-core Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor paired with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max Q or Nvidia Quadro RTX 3000 Max-Q (if you’re looking for more of laptop for video editing). You can back that up with either 16GB or 32GB of DDR4x memory running at 3,733Mhz and up to 2TB of PCIe storage. The 15-inch screen is still a gorgeous PixelSense Display with a resolution of 3240 x 2160 and you can pop the whole thing off its base with a press of the detach button on the keyboard base. Microsoft, Surface Book 3 Unfortunately, connectivity hasn’t changed much since the previous Surface Book, so you still get two USB-A ports and a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port rather than Thunderbolt 3. But Microsoft has improved the battery life on its largest 2-in-1 machine that now can last up to 17.5 hours. Gamers will be glad to hear the 15-inch Surface Book 3 also includes a built-in Xbox Wireless receiver, which can connect with Xbox One controllers and compatible headsets like the SteelSeries Arctis 9X. Of course, Microsoft hasn’t forgotten about its smaller 13-inch Surface Book 3. This detachable 2-in-1 laptop now comes with either a quad-core Intel Core i5-1035G7 or i7-1065G7 processor and optional Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 with Max-Q. The display is a little smaller in size and resolution at 13.5-inches and 3000 x 2000 pixels, but it’s still much sharper than most laptops. You’ve also got plenty of battery life on tap with up to 15.5 hours of full day usage. Sadly, this smaller model doesn’t come with an integrated Xbox Wireless receiver like its bigger brother. The Surface Book 3 starts at $1,599 and will be available starting May 21. Microsoft, Surface Book 3

Surface Go 2

On top of announcing its most powerful laptop yet, Microsoft also introduced an updated Surface Go 2. The Windows tablet PC features 10.5-inch PixelSense Display with a 1,920 x 1,280 resolution and your choice of either an Intel Pentium Gold 4425Y or 8th Gen Intel Core m3 processor. Meanwhile memory is tapped at either 4GB and 8GB with storage options of either 64GB or 128GB. Not exactly screaming specs, but the Surface Go 2 is meant to be more of an affordable 2-in-1 laptop for students and families that are, well, on the go. The Surface Go 2 starts at $399 and will be available starting May 12. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Kevin Lee is IGN's Hardware and Roundups Editor. Follow him on Twitter @baggingspam.
